If you are doing exercise your body is not used to and your muscles feel sore, it means your muscles are retaining water to help them heal. I can go on a long bike ride and be up 4 pounds the next day. It's temporary and will go away. Google "why the scale lies" for insight in to water weight fluctuations. So many things can affect the scale like: hormones, sodium, stress, inflammation, sickness, etc.

Make sure you calorie count is within range, I know years ago exercise alot, but if you eat more than your burning you can still gain weight.

Don't focus on the scale. Focus on how you feel, how things are fitting, etc. Make sure you are strength training as well. Have a good day!

Suzi161 is right about your muscles retaining water. Some other suggestions: 1. Make sure you're diligent and accurate about logging all your activity and exactly what you eat every day. 2. Drink plenty of water each day. 3. Make sure you're eating enough calories to keep your metabolism up, not eating enough can actually sabotage your weight loss by slowing down your metabolism. Check out the blog nothernmusician posted if you haven't already, it has some great information in it. I know it's frustrating but hang in there and keep working at it, the weight will come off.

Echoing Jmb here. Log all your foods. Also, if you're not already doing so, weigh your foods don't measure them. You can buy a great scale for less than $40. The difference between weighed and measured food appeared to be about 20% calories when I began checking. Changes the world. Good on the exercise.

I'm being religious about logging all the food I'm eating. Not so much with the exercise. I log when I'm walking, blading etc. But not the exact times for sitting, resting, sleeping etc. Thank you all for your support and tips. I upped my water intake. And am feeling less stressed about the 1lbs weight gain. It feels good to know that there are so many others working on being fit and healthy.

Don't stress over one pound. That could be water, clothes, etc. If it is more than one pound or a pound every week that is different.
