FitOKay's Journal, 30 April 2014

So, pretty sure I was more dehydrated this morning then usual. I was having problems breathing late last night and did several nebulizers to get my peak flow to 350 befor going to sleep. Asthma meds dry stuff out, so.... pretty sure that pound down isn't really a pound down. Not to mentions as long as I stay on this side of looking at things I'm not disappointed if the numbers go back up. Time will tell.

Most of yesterday I really wasn't hungry. I ended up eating ice cream (yum) yesterday evening to get my daily calories above 1000, then later in the evening was finally hungry and ate a baked potato, taking my calories to within my normal rage and 1288. Thank you all again for the help deciding it was ok to just let my body figure things out yesterday, rather then trying to force myself to eat at my normal times.

I really do appreciate having people here who are willing to compassionately give advice and support. At the time I posted I was leaning towards making myself eat anyways, and within a few replies I realized that would be silly. Thank you <3

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

I have Asthma also and COPD now so I certainly feel your pain! Advair had helped me not have to nebulize very ofeten now days. Just have to be super careful to rise reealy good so don't get thrush. ( disgusting ) But really saved me by being able to function on a day to day basis. Good luck with getting it under control!!!

I know advair has been wonderful for many, so glad it helped you! For my siblings and I advair showed no improvement on our pfts. My brothers and son use flovent and it works miracles. Flovent was less helpful for me but more then advair. Dulera was a miracle combination for me. Within months it had my lung function up more then 15-20% and then figuring out a corn allergy took the function up another 15-20%. I have permanent damage in both lungs and a lot at the bottem of my left lung, so I'll never be at 100% again, but doing much better then a few years ago when I was down to 50%. I hope our perspective meds continue to work sovwell. It's amazing what medication can do today!

Do you have to use several nebulizers every day? I could understand how apprehensive you might be about exercising.

I have to use at least a couple a day, especially right befor exercising if I want to stay out of the er, lol. I've learned as long as my morning peak flow is above 400 and I do a nebulizer I am fine to do my biking. Mid 300s or above then yoga or ballet. It's working out and I'm just thrilled its possible now. Any of this was just a dream a few years ago =)

I know the feeling, i spent alot of my 20's and teenage years doing nebulizer treatments. Advair does happen to work for me, but it requires a buildup.. and I need a fairly large dosage. Just take it easy. Spring has started and allergens are abound. When you feel better you can hit it a bit harder. In the meantime just make sure to not deviate from your diet.

Thanks karateorange. I know advair really helps a lot of people, it's wonderful what they have now compared to when we were kids. I think I would have been doing better but the end of winter we tried to drop my dosage of dulera, I'd been at the max dosage on it for a few years now, so we were going to see if we could drop the dose down as my function was so improved. Then spring allergies hit and 'boom!' Lol. Back up to max dose, we may try just dropping it down during winter months only and know we need to raise it again starting in March so spring doesn't hit me so hard =p

I'm impressed. There aren't many that are dedicated to doing as much as they can, with as many challenges as you face. I've got friends with COPD that are still smoking and warming the couch. Keep up the good work; sounds like you're still in better shape , or on your way to better shape, than half the population of America.

You may have it already but my friend told me to down load Water your body App. It's funny, because it sounds like water pouring into a glass and every hour or so, it pours. Now people in my office go and fill my water container up when they here it LOL https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northpark.drinkwater

hot steam helps me, sit in your bathromm with doors and windows closed, turn on all taps to full hot and sit in there and try to breathe as deeply as possible. It helps open airways and if you have any nastys to helps bring it up. First thing in the morning have a galss of super icy water it seems to help open the air ways. Good luck and oxis is an amazing astma drug if you can get it where you are!!

We do that a lot too tamzin. Thank you. I wouldn't do the freezing water though, too cold of water can induce spasms. But certainly getting plenty of water helps kedp mucus thenned out. I'm doing fine- 350 peak flow is fine. I usually don't go in unless my peak flows drop into the 200s now. 3 years in the 200s and only into the 300s if I was on prednisone gave me a pretty solid idea of exactly what I am able to deal with at home. I've promised my docs I'll go in if I hit 200s (because I was still waiting til 100s) but 350 is fine, just needing to take things easy so I don't exasperate it. I very much appreciate all the caring though =)

Thank you DairyKing. For me learning not to push past my limits has vden harder then actually exercising. I ran for years so suddenly not being able to was just exasperating, eecially followed by years of not being able to.

That is true Calyn! If we are cautious interpreting numbers, we won't get disappointed easily! :) I hope you're feeling better now!
