Thanks Steph, how are you doing?

Not a great week for me - January was good to me but the last two weeks have been a struggle. I thought that by coming on here - which I did last Monday - it would be good for me and get me more focused. But... I did not have a good weigh in this morning. It seems crazy that I can maintain a heavy weight and eat non-stop junk but then I change to eating almost all healthy with a couple cheats and I then gain weight. WTH Not having a good day but I was pleased to see you had a good weigh-in so don't let me bring you down! :)

Your not gonna bring me down, that's why we buddied up so we can go through the good and the bad! Steph I just turned 60 in Nov and have been dieting since I was a teenager, and it NEVER gets easier nor does the ups and down of weight loss get any easier to explain. I was finally after many many years able to realize that I am a sugar addict. It is exactly like they say, it is as addicting as cocaine or heroin! I have tried for so long to moderate my intake but I would always lose the battle and eat more sweets than any one person should. It amazes me that I am not diabetic, or have other side effects from my addiction. So many times I would throw in the towel and say screw it, this is too hard, I would rather just enjoy my sweets! But then my health started to go down and I knew if I wanted to enjoy the rest of my life I HAD to do this! You name a diet and I have probably tried it! They all work you just have to work them. Steph you can vent anytime you need too I will be here for you. I hope you have a better week! :)

That is very encouraging, thank you :) I don't normally even crave "sugar" type things - I've never been a sweets person. It just seems a complete lack of self control - If I know that I shouldn't have bread, I want a sandwich. If I can't have potatoes, I want french fries more than anything in the world. Oh well, tomorrow is another day - I'm a little down today but it could partly be that I didn't bring lunch and I didn't have any time to leave so I'm hungry too! LOL - I can't wait for the day to be over. I usually have a better attitude the day after any bad news.

Morning Steph, Hope you got through yesterday ok, and today you have a better day with some good motivation going! Been thinking about you and just know you are in my thoughts today! :)

Thank you - that is nice to get that kind of support! I didn't end up with a great overall day since I didn't get home until 7pm and then ate. I had a healthy veggie soup and a couple slices of roast (I'm on Atkins) so that was good. Then my daughter got off work at 8:30 and it was her birthday yesterday so her co-workers brought food. Her co-worker sent home cupcakes and they were homemade and very good. I then had a few drinks with my daughter since it was her birthday (I know I could have said no) but I didn't overdo it to get hungover but had alcohol with diet pop which stalls any loss. So not a great day. But today I had some veggie soup for breakfast and do feel more focused so we shall see! I'm going to run out at lunch and pick up a couple salad bags to keep in the fridge at work. I also took out more pre-made soup from the freezer last night so that I don't skip lunch - that always throws me off! How has your day been going?

Well lucky for me I am pretty focused right now, but I have the advantage that I don't have many if any temptations right now. Since I am on disability, I don't work so I am home all day with maybe a twice a week run to good old Wal-Mart! LOL I do cook 3 times a day, taking care of hubby who is retired and his 91 yr old step dad. We used to go out to eat a lot but we have cut back some cuz of money and because of the challenges it brings me. The one thing really nice about Atkins is how easy it is to order out. Well back to you, if it had been me I think I would have had some problems stayed on track, cupcakes I probably would have devoured and I do love to drink socially so that would have been another big trigger for me, so it sounds like you gave in but didn't go crazy! Today is a new day and I know it is really hard especially when you are tired but being prepared and having the right food available is so important. Try hard to plan ahead, and before you shop plan out a menu so you always have what you need on hand. Not preaching just giving you some pointers that works well for me. Being on a fixed income I have to plan a weeks menu ahead so I can shop accordingly and stay within my budget. Well I hope I helped some, so have a great day!

Thanks for the response - it's good to hear the difficulties from someone else's perspective. It might be hard for me since I'm rarely home however I probably don't have the challenges you face so it's good to see how others do it. It shows that I can do it - I just have to want to do it and I have to keep reminding myself that I do want to do it :)

Morning, Everybody's story is different so it is nice to see how others handle different situations. One thing we haven't talked about is exercise, personally I hate it and right now with all my arthritis issues it is difficult for me to do. Walking any distance is out of the question right now, I hate aerobic DVD's, too much bouncing around for my poor knee and ankle, so I do some toe touches, side bends etc. I have some very small hand weights and bands but I'm so lazy I can't even get started doing a small chair routine with the equipment I have! I have my eating under control but can't get my butt moving!!! So I guess that is my vice to figure out. Any suggestions? Hope you have a great day Steph!

I haven't begun an exercise plan as of yet - I'm strongly considering Curves but while I know it's a poor excuse, I haven't had time. I leave the house in the morning at 7 to drop my son off of school and then spend an hour in the car commuting to work. The company I work for has high expectations so I generally stay until about 6-7 as I have to pick my daughter up from work at 8-8:30 each night. I get home around 9pm. I am away from home each weekday from 7am to 9pm. By the time I get home, I am ready for some downtime/relaxation. I get up at 6 but it's a struggle to do that - doing an exercise plan would take away from my sleep time now and I'm not ready for that. I also work about 25 miles from my house with a heavy traffic issue so there's no easy way to get from home to work without it taking an hour or more each way. Current situation kind of sucks. Once my daughter gets a car which I think will be in about 2 months, it will really free up my time. Then I just need to look for a job closer to home and skip the 2-3 hours a day car driving! :)

Wow, I hear you and I understand as I was in a similar situation many years ago after my divorce. Job far away from home and having to juggle two boys both in school. I hope those 2 months go fast for you and life becomes more manageable, as I know that will make things much easier for you!

It can only get better so just trying to make it to then - man, I won't even know what to do with all that spare time! Since Oct I've also been working a PT job on the weekends at Caribou Coffee. Now I'm only down to one day on the weekend and I'll probably quit eventually but I also have that taking up time. Once I quit that and my daughter has a car, I'll be rich with free time!
