TXSnowman's Journal, 11 January 2014

Another big drop in two days (3.6 lbs). Since I began intermittent fasting, my weight loss has really accelerated. My weight was about stalled a week ago. I began intermittent fasting (both 16/8 & 5/2) and lost 1.2lbs the first two days, 2.2lbs the next two days, and now 3.6lbs the last two days. That's going from 0 per day to .6 per day to 1.1 per day to 1.8 per day.

I raised my calorie intake significantly yesterday (mostly protein). I'll continue to eat more calories and keep my protein at .8g per pound to see if the lean mass levels off and begins going up. Body Fat is staying at 17.5%. I'm certainly not unhappy with that, but I would really like to see it start moving a little lower. My ultimate goal is to get it down to about 13%. So, I'll keep up the exercise and revised diet and see if the fat drops, muscle maintains.
190.8 lb Lost so far: 139.2 lb.    Still to go: 0.9 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. Bill, the workouts are paying off in more ways, too. I really feel the difference that the daily core workouts and the resistance workouts every other day are having. I feel my body starting to tighten up. Tammytink, we use Tanita scales. Mine measures weight, body fat% & body water%. By simple math, I can calculate weight of body fat, total lean mass, & water. Many others that you will see on FS are using a "Body Composition" style of scale. These will measure many other factors such as visceral fat, etc. All of them use electrical impedance to do the measuring. This runs an unnoticeably small electrical charge through the body and measures the return. Electricity travels at a different speed through fat, water, muscle & bone. So the scale is able to read the returns and give a highly accurate reading of your body. You just need to be consistent in when you weigh and what condition your body is in. For best results, measurements should be done before your evening meal after a two hour or greater fast. I hope that this answers your question.

Congrats! I also am doing the IF. Most days I only will eat between noon and 8. It does seem to help speed up the loss.

This is all very interesting to me, and the first Ive heard of it. what does the 16/8 and 5/2 and all that mean. I am having goog success just by completely cutting out fast food, soda, starches, ect..exercizing almost daily. I have dropped 14 pounds since dec 12th. im worried that my weight loss is starting to slow down though.

Joeyv70, 16/8 is a form of intermittent fasting (IF) where you fast for 16 hours every day and only eat during an 8 hour window. So, say you eat your first meal everyday at noon you then stop eating every night at 8 pm and don't eat again until noon the next day. More information on this is available at the LeanGains website. 5/2 is a version of IF where you eat your normal or slightly more than normal number of calories most days (5), but eat only about 600 - 700 calories for men or 500 - 600 calories for women on the other two days. This was recommended by a book called Fast Diet. There is a good BBC video about it that explains the process they used to come up with it. It's basically a modification of the Alternate Day (AD) Fasting plan. Kind of AD "lite". According to studies, besides weight loss, there are other good reasons for doing intermittent fasting. IF will improve insulin sensitivity, lower blood pressure, increase human growth hormone, increase & speed up cellular repair, lower chances of heart attack and stroke. I used a very low calorie diet, eating absolutely only high quality lean meats, nutrient dense vegetables, limited fruit, no added sugar, no high-glycemic carbs coupled with walking and light exercise to lose the first 100+ pounds. Then I increased the exercise. When I hit about 125 pounds of loss, my weight loss plateaued. Since adding IF to the plan, the weight is coming off again and I'm down 145 lbs with about 10 to go. I can honestly say, that this is what I believe I'll be doing for life. The calorie counts will go up in order maintain a healthy weight, but I will continue IF.

I may have to try that TX. I usually struggle finding time the first 6-8 hours at work to eat anyway. Then once I do eat, I am starved. I like the idea of all my calories say from 1pm-9pm which is perfect for me. I also am like you, I want my graph to go green. :-)

jpeachy, the only problem that I'm currently having is eating enough calories in the time frame. I started at 1pm and finished at 8:55pm and I hit my protein number, my fat grams were ok, but I think that my total calories for the day should have been a bit higher. However, I couldn't possibly have eaten another bite...(not even a tiny little wafer)...lol.
