jessabridge4444's Journal, 26 July 2019

Yesterday's OMAD was a simple soup and salad. My friend did not want to split a cookie. Since I was full, I just skipped it. A very low calorie day, but I did not want to force myself to eat something just to pump it up.

I went home and did 26 mins of yoga on the FitOn app. I did very bad yoga. Damn, I am inflexible and super tight. It sure did feel great. Then, I just read and enjoyed the silence.

Tonight E's friends are coming over for Clix. I am picking up meatball subs again for everyone. I am torn because I really want one but I shouldn't have the red sauce. I am thinking of having it w/o red sauce. I got to think some more about it.

Tomorrow, my friend Bill and I are going for a hike and afterwards we are getting French Dip Deluxe sandwiches.

When I get home, e and I are going to see the new Quentin movie, and maybe Ice cream. It is my Spike day! :-)

Thankful:
Bill has recently lost 60ish lbs. He is more active now then anytime in his life. In his 20's, when he used to eat well and work out all the time, it was never cardio or walking. Only weights. I am so thankful we are adding hikes to our monthly excursions.

Goal for day:
I already exercised. I need to do my fit board on lunch. Play some video games and read while the boys play. Joyous.

Positive Thoughts:
E lost a total of 8 lbs as of this morning. I am up to 42 lbs lost overall and 32 lbs lost since 4/1. I am doing it. We are doing it together!

It is always fun and motivating to lose with a partner! I am doing that as well. Although, I have reached maintenance and he is still in weight loss (he had more to lose)...so getting in sync is a new challenge. Wish the best of luck to you and E on this wonderful journey of better health together 😊. P.S....I have started implementing your Thankful/Goal/Positive thought process...💜 it!

Why do you want to avoid the red sauce? I know tomatoes might cause inflammation, is that why?

Awesome! Is ok to go under sometimes. I mean, your're not as hungry every day. I like to do what I call "banking" the calories. I only let my bank run within a 1 week span. If I haven't used it up over the week, I start fresh the next week. This way if you go 300 cals under all week but want to add some extra sour cream to that buttery potato on the weekend, then go ahead and do it! I keep a side list of the total cals allotted for a week then deduct my totals from each day. so I know where I am at for Sunday dinner haha :)

@Fritzy I have silent systems GERD. It cause my esophagus to spasm where I cannot even swallow my own saliva. Because they are silent symptoms, I do not know what my triggers are so I have a very long list of food restrictions, plus I have to take a Rx antacid every day. I sometimes cheat, just because I am usually very good. But I had red sauce two weeks ago, only a little but I had some. And I had alcohol last weekend, and 4 weeks before that! That kind on cheating is usually done over 6 months. @Dhawk24 I do that too! I follow the spike diet which is 3 days RMR, 3 days RMR -500 and one day spike, RMR*1.2(to 1.5). This week was 11,300 calories. I had 10,600. I have a spreadsheet for all the fun #'s. LOL

Jessa - A few years ago one of my doctors said I had "silent reflux" and said to avoid certain things (probably gave me a list). The only one I remember is citrus. My symptoms were just issues with my throat, constantly clearing the throat and coughing. They didn't do any tests to verify the diagnosis. I didn't find any change by not eating the things that were mentioned. I stopped eating "nightshades" for nearly a year thinking it might improve the inflammation that shows up constantly in blood work. I also at times have trouble swallowing. I can't swallow big pills - I have to chew them or cut into small pieces. The only thing that helps is drinking pills with juice for some reason.

Alcohol for sure.

...so basically anything acidic....???

My list is alcohol (I allow myself alcohol 2-3 times a year, 1 drink, and once a year, 2+ drinks). Onions, including onion powder, Mint, chocolate, spicy foods, high in fat foods, tomatoes, citrus, citric acid, coffee, caffeine, dark sodas or drinks, tea, and I am supposed to limit dairy. I think that is most of them. I had an endoscopy to confirm my diagnosis. I also have an hiatal hernia, and a little scar tissue. Because I usually am careful, it has been a while since my last non-swallowing incident.

I found that, for me personally, a weekly calorie budget worked best. So I wanted to aim for 1200 per day which is 8400/wk. I have days where I eat things like soup, salads and fajitas and those days total 800 kcal or so. Then the next I’d aim for 1200-1400. I would do my best to leave Sunday around 1400 so I could have a bigger treat. That might work for you. Just remember that I lost a lot of muscle as I wasn’t working out so I think lifting is necessary to keep the muscle when below maintenance.

@peeperji I have added working out since the beginning of June. I have a ways to go, but I will get there

I also have silent GERD. So hard to be an Italian who has to avoid tomatoes.

I had GERD troubles before my weight loss. I still sleep on a wedge pillow and keep antacids in my nightstand drawer. I always had a "full" feeling in my throat /thyroid, got it checked out, no issues. Then I read benign thyroid nodules sometimes shrink if you take Selenium - it worked!

Eat slowly, chew well, take smaller bites, don’t lay down after you eat. Don’t eat before going to bed, don’t eat in the middle of the night. When you go to bed start out lying on your left side (best position for gastric emptying.)

Thanks moopoe & JC!

@Danana I feel your pain. I live in RI, the state with the highest % of Italian Americans (19%) by state population. Plus, E is Italian. Italian food is a staple here. @gz I got diagnosed when I was thinner, a lot thinner. I was 36 and it was a shock to me. 6 months later I got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. What a year!
