Rowanfair's Journal, 18 May 2011

My scale said 165.0 this morning. Too soon to weigh in, but this does offer the possibility that when I do I'll be under 10 lbs to lose. Unless I change my goal. When I started at 220 I have to say that 155 seemed practically impossible. The last time I dieted my goal was 162. The WII thinks it should be 153. I weighed 155 in my college years. At the end of high school it was 135 though.

And looking at myself now... I'm not sure it is enough. Yeah, I have hip bones that show again. But I definitely still have what a friend called a "Botticelli pottibelly". I'm 57 years old and have been partially disabled (fairly sedentary) for over 25 years. I get that I'm not going to look like a 25 year old. And I am 5'10" so 155 is a BMI of 22.2, not too far from the middle of "normal weight" (18.5-24.9 according to Stanford) A goal of 145 would be a BMI of 20.8 and 135 would be 19.4.

I know some of my buddies have redefined their goals... what do you think?

First congrats in that drop! That is awesome. I think that you should see how you feel when you get to 155...if you feel like it needs to be a few pounds lighter, then go for it. If 155 feels good, then stay there. As for the "Botticelli pottibelli", isn't that a fairly common thing for belly dancers due to the muscles that you build up doing that wonderful dance? I have other friends that bellydance and they all have the same belly! Have a wonderful day, Rowan!

Oh, Ctiss, that is a great point. Since I haven't been able to dance for the last year with all the shoulder/sinus/pneumonia stuff the stomach muscles have probably slumped. I plan to go back to my troupe a week from Monday and I will start (hopefully) getting more toned. I just need to be less impatient about being close to goal. *grin*

I'm jealous. Almost to your goal. I agree. See how you feel and take it from there. You'll know what is right for you.

Thanks! No need to be jealous, it is just a matter of time. :)

The Wii wants me to be 140. Up to my 30s that was exactly what I weighed. Children, age and losing an inch suggest that I might not see 140, and am perfectly happy with the current goal of 150. I will not attempt to go lower. If I do get lower great, if I stay at 150, its all good. I don't find that the Wii is an accurate body fat measure anyway. Can you go somewhere and have it done?

I agree with see how you when you get there. I'm new to Atkins, but not new to weight loss. I lost 60# on Weight Watcher's in 2004. If those last 10# are as easy as the first 65 that you lost, then keep going. But if you get close to goal and it slows way down, then you probably have the right goal in mind. Your body will tell you.

Wow Rowan! Congrads on your progress and I heAR you. I think as we get closer to goal we tend to re-evaluate our goals for several reasons. I too will never see 25 again, though a few less wrinkles would be fine lol. I too think you'll know what's right for you as you progress. I know each 5 or 10 pounds I lose tend to check to see how many handfuls of body fat I'm still carrying. Being sedentary, diabetic and in my 50's really has shifted my lean to fat ratio. (((HUGS)))

Oh, Skippy that is a great insight about slowing down and listening to your body. I will take that to heart. Thanks Ruby for your words too. it is ice not to be alone in our journey.
