Self-Test Day 1:

Running a self-test to determine if when I eat my first meal of the day affects my appetite for the remainder of the day.

I woke without any hunger, but ate a bacon sandwich at 8:30 anyway. While eating, I realized I was going to prepare a second sandwich - and yes, I did. Again, I was not hungry.

It was not a craving for water as I drank 40 ounces beforehand.

Why did you fix a second sandwich while you were still eating the first sandwich? Especially if you had no hunger in the first place. Please enlighten me on this.

This may be a case of observation changing the outcome.

An excellent observation.

C67241, "Why did you fix a second sandwich while you were still eating the first sandwich? Especially if you had no hunger in the first place. Please enlighten me on this." Wish I knew. I only know that as I was eating, I wanted a second sandwich. It wasn't a craving, it wasn't hunger, it wasn't greed. Maybe it is a compulsion. Or, something tactile about putting food in the mouth. I don't know.

millieska, "This may be a case of observation changing the outcome." I really hope not. I plan to eat at the same time for a full two weeks before changing the start time. Hopefully, that will rule out variations in my schedule. As I work second shift, work should have little impact on my test. My only observation is the start time. I will record all my foods eaten and exercises as usual.

I've been having to 'watch' myself too, more due to habit of eating half of everything we cook (I share meals with my Mom). We've been just splitting everything and filling our plates (what I call for myself Mindless Eating). I need to really break that habit. I think it's a good thing, for you to be interested in the 'why' and the triggers, for you to do a sort of 'testing' and observing yourself and your schedule. It can only help, not hurt! That is MINDFUL Eating which is a GOOD thing!! Good Luck! Do well :)

I am in no position to get into this one as this sounds like something a doctor or a nutritionist may have to help you with. Good Luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for and we are always here to help you and cheer you on to get to a healthier place. Just know you can do it. But you have to first want it for yourself.

This may sound weird, but years ago, when I would get a feeling like it seems you are having, I would "divert" from food by lighting a ciggie. This worked really well, but then I quit smoking. I found chewing a piece of nicotine gum served the same purpose. Fast forward a number of years. Recently I decided to see what would happen if I chewed a piece of cinnamon gum when I was compelled to cook and eat something I wasn't really hungry for and definitely didn't need. So far, it's working.
