Vickiauntmick's Journal, 17 May 2014

Stress has been high the past 2 weeks. Had to drive a 10 hr round trip to go visit Jeff's mother last weekend. My dad sold his house 2 weeks ago and has to be out middle of June. He was the last of my family I had close. So, now I have no reason to stay in the city I live in. My house has been for sale for over 2 years, maybe even three. I quit counting. Anyhow, Jeff's mom has severe, advanced MS. She has no use of one leg and drags it around by using a walker. The rest of her barely functions. She's even wearing diapers because of how weak her muscles are. She's borderline senile, and very fixated on religion, so everything she see's or hears is either the devil or God. Her social worker said if she fires one more aid, she will be put in a nursing home. The last aid quit in 30 minutes of being there because she told them being obese was a sin against God. So, you can imagine how excited I was to go see her last weekend. Jeff said he hate the area we live in. There are no job opportunities for him, and his old company is begging him back. We live in Ohio, and he wants to move further up north in Ohio. Problem I'm having is that I work in Kentucky. My job wont transfer people across regions. Ohio being one region, and Kentucky being another. To put this in perspective, I live 20 minutes from my job across the river, into Kentucky. His mom is 5 hours north of us in Akron, Ohio. His son is 3 hours north west of us in Columbus Ohio. We are in the armpit of Ohio, and stuck here until the forces of nature sell my home, transfer my job, and find us a place to rent temporarily wherever we go that accepts not only 3 cats, but 8 chickens. So, here's the twist. I work for the Fed Government. I can "hardship" transfer anywhere in the US. What this means is I can transfer anywhere my husband is transferred (because they will not separate a couple) or I can transfer if there is a family medical need (such as his mother needing an aid once a week to prevent her from being placed in a nursing home). The bonus to moving to his mom is living in the outskirts of Akron and Cleveland (access to a large city), but still having farm land and the possibility of being paid to serve 8 hours a month helping his mother take care of necessary household chores that we would likely do for her anyway. The bonus to moving to Columbus would be access to a big city, farm land, and he would immediately have a job once we get there.
