Josie Ann's Journal, 23 March 2014

Started the "Virgin Diet" yesterday. No eggs, gluten, diary, soy, sugar, artificial sugar, corn and peanuts for 21 days. I really want to take control of my health, so this diet book piqued my interest. After reading the whole book the day before, it just made common sense, so I'm having a go and I'll see how it works for me. I have nothing to lose, but some weight, bowel movement irregularities, and acne.

I mostly gave up dairy a few months ago and that did wonders for my skin, but I would still get the occasional spot around TOM, so giving dairy up all-together won't be hard. It won't be easy, but I'm committed to living as healthy as possible, so I'm curious which of these food categories I'm intolerant too. After the 21 days of going cold turkey, you reintroduce one food category back at a time and see if you have any adverse affects. The stronger the intolerance the greater reaction you'll have when you eat it again. Process of elimination.

I'm off to visit my folks today and get other errands done. Have a relaxing Sunday all!

If anyone can do it - you can. I found giving up processed carbs improved my skin - I'd had this constant zombie pimple on my cheek for decades as well as a weird lump on the back of each of my legs ... when I gave up breads, crackers, chips, etc... gone. I do wonder if giving up dairy would actually help those pores on my nose be smaller.. hmmm. I can imagine giving up all of that at one time will have a wonderful affect on your body - I'm wondering if I gave up ONE for 21 days and moved to the next one if I'd transition easier or over compensate ... hmmm

Hey Bells, thanks for the encouragement! I'm only on Day 3 and I feel good! My nightly congestion - gone, occasional bloat after eating - gone, I've been have daily bowel movements, skin looks less oily, my energy is high, have not felt hungry or had any cravings, and I've already lost 2 lbs in 3 days. The science behind her diet is what convinced me to give it a try and the early results are surprising me. I thought for sure I would have strong cravings, but none at all much to my relief. Of course everybody will have a different experience as everyone's body chemistry is unique, but if you're interested try it out and be a guinea pig on a science experiment like me. You've got nothing to lose and your health and well-being to gain.
