Miss Kitteh's Journal, 28 January 2014

My suggested RDI is 1700 calories, but if I eat that much I don't lose weight. On the other hand, if I don't eat that much my body thinks it's starving and hangs on to fat. Another site calculated my RDI at 1284 calories. HUGE difference. I'm sticking with the 1284...sort of. Sometimes in late afternoon I stop logging my food because I already know I'm over my budget. Guess I have a lot of stuff to figure out yet.

I don't use the FatSecret RDI, but the one developed by Carson Chow from MIT instead. Search Google for "carson chow body weight simulator." It will help you calculate RDI based on how much weight you want to loose over a period of time.

Thanks, Draglist. I just checked out the diet and unfortunately I can't eat most of the foods on it, since I don't eat grains and most meat and no fish because of food sensitivities (sigh). Have to invent my own diet and stick to it, I guess.

Fat Secret says my RDI is 2300 but I gain 1/2 a pound a week on 1400-1500 calories so I've dropped down to 1200 - 1300 and I'm losing again. However, If I eat 1200 calories and it is mostly carbs, I won't lose anything so I try to keep my carbs under 100 grams a day. We are all different. It might take a little effort but once you find out what works for you, you'll find it so much easier.

I try and keep my calorie count right between 1200 and 1300 a day, and exercise at least a hour a day. So far it has been working. Just thought I'd share with you what I'm doing. Finding that spot where you don't feel like your starving helps keep the motivation.

Oh, and I can't find anything on the Chow RDI Calculator on Fat Secret. Can anyone post a URL?

Sorry, Draglist. I run on Mac OSX Maverick. Unfortunately the java plugin required for the calculator doesn't run on a 64-bit processor. Darn. Guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way--hit and miss.

All I know is when you're over the budget, you need to do the exercising. And don't count only calories of the day - the main is total calories in a week - these impacts your weekly weight loss. So I meant that even if you're over your calorie limit one day, you can adjust it to the normal weekly rate in other days. Good luck!

not sure if it was mentioned but Dr. Ian Smith said if you add 2tsp of organic flashed oil to your diet it'll help with the starvation mode when you began to eat less. it'll tell your body we're okay, we have enough food and energy. so your body meant go into the starvation mode at all. hope this'll help you. keep up the great work.
