Kimmercakes's Journal, 03 December 2013

I was told about a month ago that I am a "ticking timebomb!" and a borderline diabetic. I hate taking medications and have 3 kids and a loving fiance to worry about. I have done a complete makeover of my diet! No fried foods, no red meat, a lot more veggies, different oils, more vitamins and NO sweets (which is very hard for that gigantic sweet tooth I have!) I snack on nuts, drink only water & coffee in the morning. I even started eating fish (which I'm beginning to like but used to HATE!)I am getting bored with the food I have been eating and knowing how I am, I am going to slowly go back to my old ways. I have already lost 13 lbs, which I find to be great since we just got through Thanksgiving! I would like for someone to just tell me what to eat everyday :)

It doesn't have to be complicated. Choose healthy foods over fast food, prepared frozen foods, or junk food. Don't drink sodas [diet or otherwise] You have already lost 13 lbs. - don't allow boredom with food to be a reason it comes back, your health is too important! I still eat the foods I love to eat like pasta, ground beef [as well as minced turkey/chicken], stir-fries, pork chops, etc. but I simply measure my portion size before I eat [based on Canadian Food Guide] and I don't put gravies or stuff like that. I have also experimented with vegetarian recipes I found by searching specific ideas online which, amazingly, my husband loves even if neither one of us are vegetarians. Don't be afraid to experiment with recipes - adapt them to your preferences.

www.skinnytaste.com Lots of recipes, all with calorie counts & nutritional breakdowns. The blogger has tons of ideas & has a lot of foods that are lightened up versions of classics. It's what I go to when I can't eat grilled fish & veggies again for dinner. :D

Thanks everyone! I tried a few new things today. My sister uses skinnytaste.com as well. I need to find different projects for my down time and I will be ok! It's hard because my family is not following the same diet as I am so I am having a whole new outlook on self-control!
