Not having a TV is a godsend. It's such a time vacuum. I usually end up watching it (and sitting, barely moving) for hours, sucked in by it, whether it's worth it or not. Not having one here, I'm getting a lot more done! In his autobiography, Duncan Bannatyne (the Scottish founder of Yo-Sushi) says he sold his TV when he decided to get serious as a businessman. He needed cash to invest, which he raised by renovating and selling a property. The first step he took though -- to make sure he'd get on with it -- was getting rid of the TV; he sold it and put the money into his project. Now, ditching the TV might not make everyone a millionaire but I reckon we should all reserve at least one or two days a week of NO TV. None, nada, zero. Just to see what it's like. Surely in everyone's life, there are a lot more interesting things to do (and calories to burn, might I add) than simply experiencing life at one remove.
