pam-u-la's Journal, 18 July 2012

I'm off work today because I am going to court with a friend, who got himself tangled up in a bad situation. Which has gotten me thinking that this weight loss healthy lifestyle journey is a lot like being on trial. We are for the most part judged all the time by our appearances, what we eat and what we are trying to achieve. Like a criminal we feel guilty if we binge on food that we know we are not suppose eat. We feel like we have broken some unwritten law when we don't exercise, we easily blame others for our situation! Etc. You get the point. But like all charges we must consider ourselfs guilty until we prove otherwise. Sure we all make mistakes from time to time, and feel imprisoned in our own body and mind. But we have the tools to rehabilitate ourselves no matter what has happened or what we have done.
For me I know I learn something new everyday, sometimes regarding diet and exercise, or sometimes about myself. It is this ability to learn and to turn negatives into positives that eventually sets us free. The personal jail cell that we have been locked into will open it's door and it is our choice whether we want to face the world or say locked up.
Anyways that's my thought of the day, not sure if it made a whole lot of sence. Hope it did.
Okay now an update of what I did yesterday, still no motivation at work :( totally frustreated with everything that is going on there. Then the extreme heat did not help either. However I did manage my walk home and another walk to the library to get a few books. Took some extra time in there because it was airconditioned. At home I tried to eat light and to keep all suggestions on decrasing my carb intake in mind. My plan to start doing some simple floor exercises in the evening has been put on hold again simply because my apartment is way to warm to do them in! Damn that sounds like another excuse to me. Oh well!
Apparently that's it for today.
** today is the day to face challenges head on. to seek the inspiration to continue, and to take a moment to realize how far we have come,**

Have a good day and as always much love and respect to all.

I really like your analogy, it makes a great deal of sense to me. Perfect sense. I hope your friend winds up alright in the end. Try not to stress too much and hopefully the court has good A/C!

The part of your journal that caught me eye is your use of the word "excuse" as opposed to "reason." There is a fine line that identifies the difference between an "excuse" and a "reason," isn;t there. To me - one is rational and the other is not. I understand the self imposed sentence part of your extended metaphor. We have no one to "blame" for those "bad situations" in which we find ourselves. We make the decisions. We face the consequences. You are a good friend to support your companion in his circumstance. You are also a good friend to many here at Fat Secret as you support us in our particular circumstances.

Thank you Nat & W4! My friend did alright in court, he goes back in 6 weeks for sentencing. But I strongly believe that when you can support someone you have the strength to support yourself.

That is a sweet thought about support. You are right. Helping others makes us feel better about ourselves.

Life has a way of getting us to look at ourselves, if only we look. Love the analogy, spot on! Hope things work out for your friend. As to the heat in your apartment, do you have access to a lower level in the building that is cooler where you could get an impromptu workout?

Ppphhhttt unfortunately I don't. But no fear I'll work something out. As for my friend it is a wait and see situation! Thanks for the comment.
