betainsane's Journal, 30 December 2016

I remembered to weigh in this morning. I'm quite proud of myself for remembering to weigh in. Now, if the numbers keep going down, I'll know I'm on the right track.

Beyond that, I suddenly started thinking about the issue of loose skin. Normally when someone loses a large amount of weight, they have loose skin here and there. I was wondering, is there a way to prevent it as I lose?

I found the following articles regarding the topic:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/116397-prevent-sagging-skin-during-weight/
http://vitals.lifehacker.com/how-to-minimize-loose-skin-during-weight-loss-1696145766

http://www.prevention.com/fitness/8-ways-to-keep-firm-skin-with-weight-loss
http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/health-fitness/healthy-eating/how-to-tighten-loose-skin-after-weight-loss

Summary of all the articles:
1.) Lose weight gradually.
2.) Eat healthy with a lot of veggies, protein, etc. Don't eat a lot of sugar.
3.) Drink a lot of water.
4.) Hydrate the skin with lotion.
5.) Build muscle as you lose to firm it all up.

Right. I hope tea counts for hydration. ;)

The rest is pretty easy as long as they don't ask me to give up my afternoon tiny piece of chocolate.

That summary makes sense. It's not just enough to do cardio or simply lower the calories to drop the weight. Strength training and a sensible diet are just as important. Best of luck to you!

You can try all of those things, but in the end there will always be loose skin. How much will depend on genetics, age, and how many times you have gained and lost weight. Don't worry about it now, just get to a healthy comfortable weight first and then decide if you wish to consult a plastic surgeon for some nipping/tucking. Then do what makes you happy.

Thank you for the research. I would add taking collagen supplementation. I'm definitely experiencing it all over my body. Most noticeably in my face :(.

Thanks, @PrettyMamaLopez! @ErikaHolister, I hadn't thought about a collagen supplementation. I'll check one out with my doctor and make sure there aren't any "weird" things I should look out for. Any recommendations? @LasVegasLinda, You are right, there are a lot of genetic variations. Sadly, though, the one part I disagree with is the plastic surgeon. Not everyone has the money for that. Me included. ;) We all have our own ways of dealing with the reality, though. And, I'm pretty sure a plastic surgeon is an easier alternative than remembering ALL the details. xD Best of luck to you guys, too!

Yes, sadly insurance companies don't see the need to cover plastic surgery. It's considered elective :( They have no idea how hard it is to achieve your weight loss goal and still not achieve a 'normal' looking body. I would just like to be comfortable in my own skin. At my age, I'm not looking for a teenage body lol. Unfortunately, the cost will probably make it impossible for me also.
