Yessss! Is this a totally 'American' snack or do you know if they're more international?

I just found the most interesting history of these things: "Food 52 writer Mara Weinraub did pinpoint the first time this food was called “ants on a log” in print, which appears to be a story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune on February 15, 1959: Anne Marie is working on snacks.May 31, 2021" I was wondering if these were a completely 'American' treat or more international...

Yum!!! I should make snacks on a plate, with protein and fat, too. I’ve been snacking a lot of carbs, repeatedly, instead of a mindful snack on a plate that stops when you’re done. Snacks are intentional, like a fourth meal, instead of stress eating lots of carbs, when you’re still in school—grown-ups can do it too, lol! I used to do that. I should do it again, make meals lighter and eat snacks like smaller meals, but still less calories, than eating carbs nonstop lol. More food, but less time eating, as in not literally filling your free time with eating lol, and less calories, than “snacking” as opposed to just “a snack…” underrated, but awesome when you’re still in school, so why not now too?

"Mindfull" is SO key. Something that helped me change a bad habit that I adopted gradually has been my dropping all commercially produced 'snack' food AND getting annoyed enough with TV programming that I stopped watching it; hence no more temptation to stare at the tube and munch.

Gopherit, it depends on the person! Some people struggle no matter how mindful they are—at worst, deep-rooted emotional reasons that go beyond just stress eating, and at best, just stress eating. Also, some people have no psychological barriers, just people surrounding them with poor eating habits, and we tend to copy what other people do! It is difficult for a person to stand out, even by doing the right thing. That book may be good for some people though. For others, maybe a non-food-related book about getting over emotional struggles. For many people, maybe a book about changing habits with no strong, negative emotions, just habits. And other reasons, too.

cindylynnwho, I am only familiar with this from living most of my life in The Big Mitten. They are (or were at least) commonly given to small children as a healthy snack. The hippie age is when I remember them being popular but my young-adult grand children are all acquainted with them. I gave my own kids dates stuffed with cream cheese and a pecan half that we called 'June bugs.'
