Tried something new in afternoon workout. Normally do a full 1 hour weight training followed by 30 minutes of cardio, but I was limited tp 45 minutes due to an appointment. In between sets, I did 25-30 jumping jacks to elevate my heart rate in hopes of turning my weight traing into a kind of cardio training. I used my heart rate watch to track my calorie burn. For best accuracy I was checking heart rate before and after each set with weights and after the jumping jacks. Kept my heart rate between 120 - 150 for the workout. Watch said I burned about 400 cals compared to 250 for longer, non jumping jack workouts I had done. While I was breathing hard, it did not appear to impact my muscle recovery between sets, thus I did not feel the workout suffered because of the increased heart rate. Anyone else ever tried this?

maybe, though most would say supersets involve 3 weightlifting exercises one after the other. I've done that before but never got my heart rate to 150 like I did with the jumping jacks.

Well, that is high intensity interval training (HIIT)which is what we do at my gym all the time - and you can burn more calories in an efficient and quick way. We lift and then do more cardio or impact moves in between lifting, and then we will also go all out on the rowing machine or treadmill - I use the elliptical. Not selling my gym at all - but they have some good information on their website. OrangeTheoryFitness
