Diana 1234's Journal, 02 January 2023

So I was the gym today doing my Monday body pump class,.We had a sub. She was really tough but good...I usually am one of the heaviest lifters in class. When we were doing squat track I had heavier weight on my bar than anyone else. As we were doing squats the instructor singles me out and says, " Great weight selection and form, Love to see seniors working out.." I was somewhat insulted.. Did I overreact? 😯🤣💪

if I had to accept being called ma'am twenty years before I was ready... yeah, it's annoying but it'll pass.

Well I think she could of used a different word but you can be proud that you were lifting heavier than the younger ones in the class and that rocks!!

Aah, Diane, I would be annoyed as well, but as Kat rightly says - I had to endure being called 'Aunty' or Ma'am long before I was ready for it. Guess I'm used to it now and don't mind or care anymore. Well done on your weights and form though!!!💪🌟👍

A senior citizen is typically someone who has reached 65. I think perhaps you are twisting her words to mean that you LOOK like a senior (old). But at a glance, she saw that your hair is white. I mean, you are 65 now, retired, and possibly take advantage of senior discounts, right? Your strength is certainly of someone decades younger, which is maybe what the instructor was complimenting. Everything else can handled by beauty experts, stylists and their products & procedures.

It is just a twinkling moment in time

I probably would be insulted, no matter how old I was! I don't think it's smart to call anyone a senior, unless it's high school.

Diana!!!! Gray hair or NO ..... you are adorable and you DO NOT LOOk like a "senior citizen"! Jeez, even if you actually are 65+, that's not a cool reference!!! Sorry she said that!! {{hugs}} 💪 💯 🌎 🫶 ☘️

Anyway, a true compliment could have left that word out .... since you were out lifting everyone else!!!!! Gahhhh .. people.....!!!

Diana, like you I'm sensitive to vocabulary pointing out age....in spite of the fact I'm older. I don't think younger people usually get it. She was probably thinking she was complementing you. With your accomplishments, I understand you want others to recognize they're outstanding for anyone.

And yet you out lifted everyone else! Ha! She sounds immature. 🙄I would take her comment w a grain of salt. You look fabulous!!

as someone on the younger side I can't imagine saying that to someone thinking I was complimenting them but I wouldn't dwell on it too much your kicking butt. post up some more gym photos so we can see you crushing everyone else in your class 👍

You are doing great. I doubt if she meant anything by it.

I doubt she meant anything but a compliment, sometimes people just don't realize what they're actually saying!

When people say things like that to me i just assume i am re-writing their script for what we older people can do/look like/accomplish. I take it as a compliment and then i just continue to kick their asses and show 'em how it's done! :)

You DO rock!:) She could have chosen better words.

Thank you all...I'm only half kidding about being insulted but it did kind of bug me. I don't think she meant it as an insult but I'm not handling aging very well. I dont like what is happening to my body as I age so I do try hard to counteract that as much as I can... I do love all your comments and thanks for supporting me! You guys are the best!!!!💪💪💜💜💜💜💜💜

I LOVE Body Pump and like you, wince at being considered “older” … but am trying to convince myself to just “own it” and be proud of the strength I have and the fact that like you, I lift heavier weights than most younger class members. The social aspect of class is very important too! Enjoy your workouts and just be YOU!
