shirfleur 1's Journal, 03 August 2022

I joined this group almost 3 1/2 years ago and I have learned many things about myself. And this is what I know: when I eat 1600 or fewer calories a day, I lose weight. It doesn't matter what I eat, it doesn't matter what time I eat it, it doesn't matter whether I exercise or not, it doesn't matter how much water I drink, it doesn't matter how much sleep I get. For me, a 79-year-old, inactive woman, this is what works. Yes, there are days when I show a gain, but if I stay on the path, the loss will come, every time.

That's great you've got the formula that works for you Shirley! I'm still trying and don't quite have it yet. But I know for me I need to stay way under 1600 calories to lose, but I oould maintain on that.

I love reading all the success journals. Everyone is different but logging every single thing honestly that goes into your mouth and being calorie deficit at the end of the day, the weight will drop. I often remind myself to trust the process.

Weight loss is actually easy. Eating for health, weight loss or maintenance and living a healthier lifestyle by making better overall choices is more complicated .

I agree Kenna, and I do eat a healthy diet most of the time and I exercise when I'm able. What I stated above is what I know, not necessarily what I practice on a regular basis.

I'm glad you joined, glad you stayed, and glad you know what works for you.

I agree with the calorie deficit approach, not certain if I'd call it exercise, but being more active around the house seems to help lose weight if I'm within my limit, and if I'm over limit, the activeness seems to keep the gain down. I find the same as you about the sleep, water, etc under normal conditions, but also add that since salt is not a regular part of my life, if I have an unusually high amount over a short timespan, such as margarita's and salty foods, then I'll retain a bit of weight for a while. 💦 🏡

Great post Shirley! As long as the process is sound, trust it👍

true. Weight loss is rational, calories in, calories used. Good for you.

LooseButtons, exercise is the one thing that I find has an obvious impact on the rate at which I lose weight.

Thanks! I am turning 79 in a few days and am trying to get a good daily calorie goal for losing about 10 pounds. It is hard at this age! I was on WW for 2+ years and lost 22 pounds in the first year- then got stuck for the last year, maintaining but unable to lose more. Your experience gives me hope I'll find the right path here.

I found counting calories is the only thing that works for me and using FatSecret is the easiest method. After a while I could keep a running estimate without entering the food every day for an accurate count. I shoot for less than 1,000 calories through midday and eat carefully later. I weigh naked every day at the gym. If I get outside my weight range goal, I go back to recording everything I eat and drink. The act of entering my consumption stimulates discipline until I get backwith in range. I can lose on fewer than 2,000 calories in part because I like to watch movies on the treadmill. A good movie is worth five miles. I'm 6'2" and, while I wish I could get to 175, realistically the best I seem to do is stay between 180 and 185. I keep a pair of tight jeans to put on as a reminder to eat and drink carefully.

Glad you've found what works for you, Shirley. I'm still tweaking to figure out what works best for me over the long haul. At some point, I'm going to have to figure out how to maintain.

I'm a big believer in doing what works for each of us individually. The system you have has proven to work for you. My choice is CICO, while concentrating on lower carbs,(100 grams) high protein ( 100-125 grams)and about 30-40 grams of fat per day. I lift weights. I have been criticized in the past and I don't tell anyone it's what they should do but it certainly works for me. I also eat pretty clean. That is what I like. You look great Shirl and I totally respect your choices!💜💜💜
