So I was MIA for a week, but what a week! A week ago I had a ladies wine night here which turned out to be lots of fun. A couple of the women stayed until after 1:00am, so that was really nice. Now we're a group of six, hopefully seven if one can start making it soon. The next day I was not quite up to working out if you catch my drift. But went for coffee with my favorite next door neighbor and had a really nice time. She's been out of town most of each month doing consulting work over the last several months, so lots to catch up about.

Saturday my brother came in from CA. I always have a great time with him and it's becoming a tradition for him to spend birthdays here with me in AZ. He's a BIG drinker, and I'm an idiot and try to keep up! So diet and exercise went out the window in spite of my best intentions. Oh well. My husband and I did get up before the crack of dawn and do a hike - probably about a 6 mile one... maybe 7. Glad I got that one in, though, as I didn't exercise again until yesterday (Wed.) So really I guess I missed three days of working out - not as bad as it seemed at the time.

Saturday I decided to take us around the world in beers. Off the top of my head we visited... Jamaica, Mexico, Holland, Belgium, one from San Jose, CA, another Belgium beer (because it is rated 98 points and voted the Best Beer in the World... and it WAS), then on to England (yum... Newcastle) and back to Germany for a failed attempt at a Black & Tan. That's where you pour a bottle of a pale ale in a BIG beer mug, then pour a can of Guinness slowly over the back of a spoon tilted at a 45 degree angle into the glass. When you do it right (my husband made some for us on Sunday that were beautiful), you have the pale ale on the bottom and the dark beer on top. Really cool. Ah, but my attempt failed. (tasted great, though). Then we went back to Mexico and to England a couple more times. Yup. I was feeling it the next day!

Sunday, early evening, after we had an Easter dinner (and Black & Tan's...hahahaha) my kids had friends come over. My brother and I love their friends and we were sort of celebrating my brother's birthday by having them over. Really nice bunch of kids - love them all but have a few favorites :). We had a great time, perfect patio weather... and my brother and I drank far too much wine! But it was a nice evening and my brother was happy, so that's what matters.

Monday was his 45th birthday. We both woke up feeling it. Did what we could to feel human because we had a big happy hour afternoon/evening planned. Oh, we'd done some shopping and stuff, too, hit local stores and a couple of wine stores, etc. Went to Valle Luna for happy hour - got there about 4:00 and started drinking those giant mugs of Blue Moons. Like, 30 - 32 oz mugs. Ate lots of chips and salsa, finally ordered a basket of tacos to share, kept drinking. Holy cow. I can't remember drinking THIS much beer ... ever. Finally decided we couldn't drink any more - no room at the inn. Called my daughter and her girlfriend to pick us up. Oh man, I felt horrible and couldn't hang out with my brother and went upstairs to bed. Well, got sick first, but you didn't need to know that part. Only reason I'm putting it in there is for the weight factor. Anyway, turns out he was only up for about another hour before he crashed out, too. And he said he had a fun birthday, so that's all that mattered.

My brother left the following day - I decided I needed to fast, at least one day, probably two. But I made him a big breakfast and packed up a bag of snacks, water and sandwich for him for the drive home. Had a great time, way too much alcohol involved, but a lot of fun, lots of laughs, and hopefully some good memories for him, too. So I fasted Tues., wanted to work out, but I was so exhausted from the previous five days that I just didn't have it in me. But I did work out yesterday, and fasted yesterday, too.

Reason I put that in about getting sick like that? Because I know my weight was way up - only takes a few days of food and drink (especially beer!) to add five to seven pounds. I didn't get on the scale before I fasted on Tues., but as of this morning, I'm at 127. I probably shouldn't record it unless it's the same tomorrow. And if I am...YIPPEE!!! Because I want my weight range between 123 - 127, with 125 being my goal.

Long entry, wanted to catch up.

D, wondered if you had fallen off the face of the Earth....glad it was something much more fun. I have had Irish Car(b) Bombs...half a whiskey glass of Guiness with a shot glass of Baileys Irish Creme dropped in and chugged....guaranteed to get you bombed...I suspect that is where it gets it's name! Sounds to me like you are back on track and great job with the weight. So happy that you had a great time with your brother. Those are the memories of a lifetime! Love ya!! <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

I think that the memories acquired from his stay are more important than what a stupid scale says. I LOVE black & tans, even if they are full of fail they always taste wonderful lol. Glad to see you back and glad to see you back on track!

Oh can I come next year? I want a beer run around the world! :) Nice to hear from you chickee. Missed you, but you know that already, lol. It was a time of celebration, don't sweat it. As to your question about my feet. I haven't exercised since putting the insoles in last night. I think I have a REALLY bad case of shin splints. It's pain in my ankles and shins....a bad pain. A friend of mine that's a trainer said to get the insoles and if they don't help get the ones that are specific for your arch area and see if they work. Told me to ice my shins every night after zumba and to put the absorbine junior on them after ice. Crossing my fingers the inserts work. I was literally limping around now and then Monday night and part of Tuesday. Sucked major arse! I could have used one of those beers fo sho! Hope your day is a good one chickee.

Those flucking fluctuations...LOL..but I am glad you had a good time with your family and friends as that is important too. This is a LIVE-IT NOT DIET:) and you know how to keep good balance, so am happy to here you won't worry or beat yourself up as this is true progress and your number will go down soon enough! Sometimes I think it is truly amazing what we can get away with at times...over the holiday I had a banana split and some other things that I only partake in on special occassions. Got back on track on Monday and have started to fluctuate downward again pretty darn quick! TOWANDA!!!!!!!!!!

Hi ctlss! Hmmm... the Irish Car Bombs sound... uh... interesting? lol...(actually, it sounds pretty good!) Loving the Guinness, trying to avoid Baily's and Kahlua like the plague though. SO loaded with sugar and calories. Unfortunately my husband's favorite drink - Kahlua, vodka and cream. I use my sugar free creamer so at least it doesn't add MORE sugar to the mix! We did make some good memories! Lots of fun.

Hi Pixi! Oh, I guess I failed to mention, my almost non-drinking husband managed to pour some PERFECT Black & Tans! Go figure! Of course, the one I tried to make used a bottle of Guinness - apparently it works best with the cans. And thanks, it FEELS good to be back on track, too!

Youngbug... you KNOW you're always welcome here! And when you DO show up, we'll go 'round the world with beers if you want. It was actually pretty fun! And your feet? Okay, I feel better knowing it doesn't start in the heel. That plantar faciitis is a booger to try to heal. I wonder if it ever actually goes away or if it just gets better. I've tried all sorts of inserts and for me, anyway, the best ones are Superfeet (the green ones) and now I have a pair of those Dr. Scholl ones that you stand on the machine in the store and it measures your pressure points and then tells you which insert to buy. Both are expensive, but when your feet hurt like mine did, you'd pay anything for some relief. Hope you heal really fast!

Hi Lisa! Oh, I know celebrations are important! And it was worth every minute of it to enjoy this time with my brother. I guess I didn't make my journal very clear though... I was thrilled with seeing 127. I know my goal is 125, but I haven't seen 127 for weeks now. And after days and days of snacks and beer and wine (and a million tortilla chips), I'm sure I was over the 130 mark. More than sure, probably 133 or so. So seeing the 127... I was happy! :D Sometimes I think eating something we don't allow ourselves to, or overdoing it in other ways - sometimes that seems to be what's needed to kick start the metabolism again. Just a theory, but I've seen this happen time and time again. Glad you're back on track and headed back down, too! Feels great, doesn't it?

Good morning rwl! We want to celebrate our life not just worry about food calorie all the time.. I'm happy for your great time with family. I almost had my brother visit here but he didn't have enough time during his business trip. I think you are smart to set a range of weight rather than a single number. Our weight changes all the time. I now fit into all my previous clothes comfortably even though I weigh 7-8 pounds more. So I don't focus too much on my scale any more. Thank you for your encouraging words on me as always and I'm so proud of having you as my friend on this journey. Have a wonderful weekend!:)
