Good Morning All,
Well here is what is on my mind this morning. How many of you out there are taking a statin for high cholesterol? Being that I was part of the medical community for so long I always trusted my Dr to make good decisions for me and that included my meds (man how stupid am I?) anyway needless to say I have been taking Zocor for a few years now and after reading some of Jimmy Moore's articles at Carb Smart I am starting to realize I really may not need those meds! When you decrease your carbs and increase your good fats your #s should improve. I see my Dr this coming Monday for my 6 month check which will of course include blood work. Now that I am equipped with information I plan to have a little talk with him about including different panels to see other #s that reflect what my whole cholesterol really is and if I should continue a drug I may not need! As we all know Dr's can be stubborn, difficult, and Godly or so they think soooooo wish me luck!

Good luck with that appointment. I've been there! Some of us have a genetic predisposition for high cholesterol (and a genetic predisposition for LOW HDL- aka the "good" cholesterol). Sometimes, even if we get the "bad" LDL cholesterol down, the lower "good" cholesterol finding messes up the overall number. That is the case with me, unfortunately. I did statin drugs for a few years and then my liver enzymes started going up, so I requested something safer for me. I got put on Zetia, which is supposed to help bind cholesterol in your digestive tract so it can't get recirculated. It worked OK for a while, but as I put on weight, I saw less and less effect. So, I quit Zetia as well. I decided to watch my diet and exercise and take red yeast rice and/or fish oil and eat oatmeal. Surprisingly, that worked well enough for my doctor to leave me alone. I still don't have GREAT overall cholesterol, but I can live with that. Now that I am SERIOUSLY addressing losing weight and increasing my exercise, I am excited for my upcoming physical, where I will get to compare all those lab findings.

Morning My appt is Mon, so won't have any results for a while. Thanks for asking and I will definitely keep you posted! I did finally bite the bullet and schedule my knee replacement for April 14th, this one I am definitely NOT looking forward too. I have been down this road before with the left knee so I know what to expect and this time I have a new surgeon and a new hospital so it makes it even more unnerving. More worried about how this is going to effect my food plan. Not doing a whole lot of exercise now but will be pretty much immobile for quite awhile while I do my rehab. Plus my poor hubby will be in charge of grocery shopping, and meal prep while I am recovering, so things could get tricky. Since I have a very special occasion in Aug that I am looking forward too, each week of weight loss is very important! As soon as I get clearance from my Dr I can start doing water rehab in my pool, that is where most of my exercise comes from due to the ease on my joints in the water. Just don't want to do anything to disrupt the flow of my weight loss but the pain has become a big motivator to get this over and done with!

looking forward to hearing your results. I know many ppl who have changed this lives through atkins, and it truly is amazing. I have been soo lucky, NO issues with my health, no meds, etc... knock on wood.. the dr is always soo shocked, wth, your obese and your numbers are perfect... I so believe Atkins way of eating can change all those numbers. Good luck.
