Wow took almost a year off, ate what I wanted to and 40 pounds latter I am saying what the heck happened. No stressful events, no dramatic life changing events just being lazy and think that it was not an issues. I did quit smoking and that was a big thing. Seemed pretty easy to do, just did it cold turkey after 30 years and almost 2 packs a day. I hope now I can focus on getting these pounds off.

Bruce, that's how I quit, too! It's been over 20 years, so it doesn't even "count" anymore in terms of its former health risk. Remember that if you are ever tempted. But some of us can and do quit cold turkey and for good. You go, guy!! But like you, I added weight. Replaced one oral habit with another. But I lost it again long ago. It's only in the past five years I've put on 40+ lbs. I attribute my starting weight here (196) to my sedentary life as well as getting older. That's a risky combination! But I've lost 23 pounds since early October and still have huge motivation to lose the other 23. I've been almost exactly where you are. So stay confident. You've already accomplished something hugely healthy, so you know you can do this!

Thanks Red yes as we get older it seems to me it is more of a task to do things, when we were younger we could just snap our fingers and it would get done. It has been 6 months with no smokes so I am not really worried about that, just have to kick some butt on this weight now, I will just have to take it like I did smoking, one day at a time, one less bite at a time. Served 27 years in Navy, determination and goal accomplishment is second nature. Thanks again for the support and great comments.

Who says winners never quit, and quitters never win? (I just saw that slogan somewhere yesterday lol). Anyhow, congratulations on quitting smoking... To both of you! If you can quit smoking cold turkey, then I KNOW you have the determination and willpower to lose that extra flab!

I know the weight gain . I gained forty pounds after I quit cold turkey nine years ago. So keep up the strength and good for you.
