Looking at weights, workout benches, sets, etc., on Craigslist, maybe Academy. If I'm going to embarrass myself, then I'm going to do it in private, not in front of all the accomplished lifters at the gym. And, I found a free web site with exercise instructions. https://darebee.com/

Really, it isn't that bad at the gym..and I used to go to a pretty big one. Most people are into their own thing. On the other hand, having your own gym would be very convenient if you can afford it. Good luck!!!! Totally awesome that you are pursuing this. :0)

Why would you embarrass yourself? Go light and slow while you learn the movements. Then slowly increase the weights as you feel comfortable. Everyone there was new at some point! They’ll know what you are doing and I’m sure support you!

😉 so true. it's hard to go to the gym when some go to show off.

I really don't care about show offs, or even embarrasment, it was sort of a joke, I have pretty solid self-confidence. Life is big watermelon, you can't eat the whole thing, we're good at some things, other things not so great at. I'm kewl with that. I really just didn't want to spring for a membership and not use it, so, I thought that I'd just start with a few inexpensive free weights at home ...

RgaDawg- Stable mats from Tractor Supply Company are great for protecting the floor if you are setting up a training location. I posted a picture of mine January 17, 2019 (about page 14 backing thru my journal) if you're interested.

I did the same! Well, working with weights, body weight, and bands at home before starting at a gym. I figured I wanted to get started. After several months I got frustrated with the limits of what I had.
