rgaDawg's Journal, 30 September 2019

Yesterday, day off from riding. My body launches into carbo-loading mode on a day off, trying to store glycogen for next day ride, usually a long one. I have these Organic High Protein Weight Loss Bars, 200 cals per bar, but full of fiber and protein, lower starch, no sugar. Problem is my body doesn't stop calling for them, because it's trying to get fast carbs that aren't there. My body is saying, hey dude, these have cocoa, taste like a candy bar, but where the heck is the sugar? Thank god, I think the way the "High Protein Weight Loss Bars" work is that the more of them you eat, the more weight you lose. Do I have that right :) Anyway, they get burned up, so no damage done.

Hey dud, you better listen to your body clambering for fuel! 😁 I'm kinda thinking maybe you have it wrong with the "weight loss bars!" have real chocolate... And while you are at it have some good coffee! 😁

Ya Dawg sorry I gotta hang with Mellisa on this one. At 180#s and 4.5 hours riding 50 miles your burning 2K plus calories ( I can’t make out the second digit). That’s a huge drain on your energy stores and that needs to be replaced if your going to maintain the energy level to do it again. Do you shake or get tingling in your face etc? If I did this without ramping up carbs/protein I’d be shakin’ by the time I’m done. That’s not the way to complete a healthy exercise session my opinion. Just saying ....

Yep, you are working so hard! Eat a steak, big old omelet... Something super satisfying! 😁

Agreed. I'm pretty well allowing my body to take in 2800 - 3200 cals per day. It was very noticeable, my hunger factor went way up when rides went to 40 - 50 miles. The weight loss bars were supposed to be protein, but I've switched to energy bars w/ equal amounts of fats, proteins, & sugar (fruit). I ate 5 of them last night (220 cals ea.)- after dinner. I have 24 hours to burn that carbo loaded sugar. I'll burn it today. The long rides don't go well if I don't have ample glycogen for fuel. They go real easy with some carbo loading. I've also been fairly permissive with pasta, which used to be a big no no.

Good! 😁 You need a lot of fuel for that expenditure. Glad you can enjoy your pasta! Yay!
