Oh Lord...no workout yet today. Did lots of errands that needed to be taken care of and did some shopping - both clothes and food. I had to pick up my progesterone cream from the compounding place, and asked if it might work better for me if I applied it both morning and night in divided doses. Not having much luck with the hot flashes. The pharmacist said okay, but it could also be my thyroid med needs upping again, too. Anyway, he recommended this stuff called DIM-3 and it's supposed to rid your body of excess estrogen. I was having yet another hot flash just before I got there, so I took one as soon as I got to the car! Let's see if it helps. Just looked it up and and it could even help with weight loss if any of the weight is due to hormonal balance. That would be a huge benefit. And it may also help build muscle, too, which would also be great. So anyway, need to chill out for a bit, then figure out what to make for dinner, and hook up the bodybugg to see if any of my shopping/errands qualify for "moderate activity". Which would be awesome, since I "owe" my challenge 20 min. of activity.

I don't know much about all of that but I would try to keep the drugs to an absolute minimum. I hear that they *all* have side effects. Keep up the good work Redwinelover.

Great point, Info! Believe it or not, I'm not usually one to take a lot of medications. But here I am, a hot flashin' 50 year old woman who recently discovered she had a thyroid problem. So my long-time pride of being on no medication (except Restasis for dry eyes - drops that I wonder if they do anything for me at all!) is gone now...except I may find that a little bit of thyroid may take care of a multitude of issues women my age face. Hopefully. I Googled the DIM-3 and couldn't find any real downside and it has the benefit of clearing out excess estrogen (and supporting testosterone production :) and that benefit alone could protect me from heart disease, cancer and diabetes. So to me it's worth the trade off. So far....it ain't over 'til it's over, though!:) I did find this regarding DIM-3 that is of interest: "DIM is an indole phytochemical that is a natural metabolic of compounds found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. When an indole 3 carbinol supplement is ingested, it converts in the gut into diindolylmethane." You poor guy - you probably know WAY too much about women being on this site! lol

Hah? You can get brussel sprouts in a pill? I'll take it! Love broccoli, and I'll have lightly steamed cabbage any day, but those nasty little things masquerading as a vegetable? I don't think so! Incidentally they are very high in folic acid, a preventative of (I think) spina-bifida afflicting the developing foetus: I forced myself to eat lots for the 1st trimester, but have successfully avoided them for the subsequent 15 years! Another "what I did for you" stick to berate the teenager with...
