tina10915's Journal, 12 January 2013

Okay so my next challenge is to get through the weekend. I am at work and I am a Home Health Aide. The guy I take care of wanted pizza for lunch. My favorite pizza. I have to bake it in the oven. Boy does it smell good! Instead of eating it, I am working my journal entry. This is so hard. This is where a lot of my weight came from. We go out to eat, snack all day, orange juice and pop all day long. I will fight this and I will win. He had my favorite cereal for breakfast. I was okay with that because I ate before I left the house. Let's see how the rest of the day goes.

Im' the only one on atkins and so I cook all my favorite stuff for my husband and the g'kids and g'kids love to bake !! I know it can be hard,it is for me..it does get easier really ! you can do this, just try to be prepared with your own version of food. I try to cook big pieces of meat and then divide them down to make several different meals, all done at once and all very different. I do alot of cooking on the weekends for the whole week. Do check out Linda's site and Buttoni's site both are great.. There are alot of really good low carb sites and most will fit our eating style. Try the cauliflower pizza crust..it's pretty good Have a good day & good Luck !

Once a friend held one finger up to her chin, thumb on her throat and told me, "Delicious only lasts this long. Fat sticks around forever!" Don't accept temporary delicious only to get long term fat in return! I mean, Tina, LOOK at your blue weight graph!!! Wish mine looked that good! You are doing great!

I'm the only one who eats low-carb in my family, too. I cook a lot of their meals and shop for all the groceries. It doesn't bother me anymore, but it does help if I'm already full when I'm cooking their food. Planning ahead is so vital, especially for times when you're going to be away from home. Kudos for distracting yourself instead of eating some pizza :) That's a big step towards accomplishing your goal in this process of changing the way you eat :)

I live with teenagers and I definitely have to manage two dietary worlds at my house. My worst thing was chips. My son needs to eat as much salt as possible (heart condition and low blood pressure) and so I have to have salty snacks around. I "fight back" by always being prepared. I have just as many taste tempting things that are on my diet available to me and then I don;t have to worry. Try to bring some food along with you when you work, eat smaller, more frequent meals, and then you will be able to fight off any tough challenges that come up.

its the same here. My son is on atkins with me (15yrs) because he is as overweight as I am and the pediatrician has been giving me hard time. But on Saturdays he has friends over and they are used to me cooking for them . Today one said, the food was good but different than what he is used to eating at my house but loved it none the less. kinda felt like my son was embarrassed so I made them club sandwiches for dinner, but instead of chips I gave them cucumber chips and a side pickle and emerged a winner. My fiance on the other hand wont eat if he thinks its diet so I too am shopping for a different type. He is a chef so we have worked out that I will make the main dish, meat, chicken, ect and he will make his own sides. its works great except when i make fish since he wont eat fish. lol. Its hard when its work that you deal with bc you have no control over what he wants to eat, but when it comes to my family they deal with it or in my fiance's case, he sneaks out to the store to buy his own junk food and kindly hides in a cabinet designated for his munchies. I just pretend its cat food in there and stay away. The good thing here is you recognized the danger before and were prepared so KUDOS to you!!!

You did great today. That took some real will power. The thing to do is be prepared, which I'm really not that good at. Hopefully you can keep strong the rest of the weekend.

I found it sometimes takes baby steps to get psyched to change your habits. I was at an all time low in my life and my heaviest weight. In reality I have a life that people envy, but I didn't see it that way and ate myself into health issues and major depression. I didn't want to leave the house because of how I looked and felt, ate carbs to feel better and reward myself, and ultimately was shortening my life and short changing my loved ones and myself. First I decided to change my eating and do Atkins again no matter what my doctor thought. I had success previously and felt the best. The diabetes diagnosis made it easier to eat low carb. I was scared to put anything in my mouth that would raise blood sugar levels. Next, although having a fractured fibula, With doctors permission, I began walking a bit, just around the house at first, then short little walks a few houses down the street, then to the end of the block. Once the snow and ice came I started doing some stretching exercises and realized how far out of shape I am! So now I stretch a bit every day and its getting easier. I kind of missed walking so I bought a new treadmill. I walk 30 minutes most days and sometimes it's a struggle to get to 30 minutes, but even walking slow is better than not. I used to have difficulty going upstairs and that's getting easier now too. Two months ago I never would have thought I could be 27 pounds lighter and inches thinner. I never imagined I could manage a 30 minute walk, but I can. Every day I am now telling myself that I can do a little bit and sometimes a bit more. But if I can't, then tomorrow I will try again. Don't give up and start each day anew. Every week on low carb brings new success; feeling better, a bit of weight loss, increased energy, skin clearer, sleeping better, increased mental cognition, being able to find joy in life again. I'm just sorry I waited to long to do this for myself. Please continue to do this for yourself too! You deserve it! PS. I rencently made homemade pizza for my family and friends and the smell of the homemade crust baking was so good. I decided to eat pizza with them, but left the crust. The toppings were low carb (no sugar sauce, sausage, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses). It satisfied me and I didn't feel left out. I try to find a way to eat what others eat if I can or be prepared to have my own food if needed.
