Dee_T's Journal, 03 March 2019

I am so tired of people trying to convince me that eating healthy is a bad idea. It's not my fault that they think that eating literally pounds of sugar each year is normal.
Before the 1950s, Americans ate very little sugar. Today we eat pounds per year. That doesn't even include all the bread, pasta, rice, and every other high-glycemic food out there.
I literally had a man that is 400 lb, on oxygen, and admitting that his blood sugar is sky-high, try to convince me that it was the right thing for me to do to eat a candy bar.
Another man who has had a heart attack and quit smoking because of it, admitting that his blood sugar is high, admitting that he will someday need to go on insulin, but he's enjoying his donuts for today.

Yeah eating has changed. I think maybe one of the biggest changes is that people do not cook at home anymore. And yes sugar consumption is up, diabetes is up. It is sometimes funny what people think is unhealthy vs healthy and sad. Hang in there. You are in charge of your diet.

I've been doing some reading today, and I'm realizing that the folks (one person specifically) who have been the most strident about me not eating sugar might have a problem (addiction) with sugar. This person is WAY too invested in MY decision to not eat sugar. Not sure how I'm going to deal with it as I have to deal with them all the time, and I don't want to create bad feelings. But if they continue stridently making points about how much sugar "helps" them, I might have to say something, damn the consequences.
