ChrisSpark's Journal, 30 November 2014

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've been checking in from time to time, but having a hard time with my depression and haven't been logging my food regularly like I had been.
My sister came to visit and we had a nice time...until a neighbour in my apartment (I don't know which one) called the police because I was "banging on the walls". My sister and I had just come in from a day of shopping and my Lab may have hit the walls a couple of times with her wagging tail. By the time the cop arrived, I was making dinner and my sister was talking to her family on the phone. I was listening to the tv on wireless headphones (which I always do so I don't make too much noise!) and I had no idea why the cop was there. Neither did he. I told him I can't fart in my apartment without a noise complaint. I don't listen to music, have visitors very often or even feel comfortable talking on the phone. Don't even get me started on what I do to my poor dogs if they dare to bark. WTF is wrong with people? Needless to say, everyone else in the building listens to music, cooks, watches tv at a normal volume and vacuums. Now I will too. FFS. I am so upset.
Sometimes, I just really hate my life and I want to binge on potato chips. So far, I've been able to hold out. I just don't want the miserable people to win.

End of rant. Thanks for listening.

Ah, I would hate living in an apartment building because of neighbors like that. You are doing the best you can to keep quiet, the neighbor is the one with the problem. Do something else that makes you happy, avoid overeating when you're sad. That will just make you feel worse because of the guilt later.

Thanks for the wise words snezica :-) I was just thinking I need to get out and do something positive today.

Maybe when lease is up, find a place with better neighbors- I am lucky I am on 2nd Floor and it's super quiet- also the way thease apt are set up- noise does not get through- This is enough dividers and brick- so tv and stereos do not get through walls easy- I only have one direct neighbor per say /the way the set up is and he is a retiree from Russia/ scrunch a beanie hand ball when neighbors get you mad!!!!

Sadly, I live in social housing on disability, so my choices are limited. I don't talk about it much, since I am mostly tired of being judged when people find out. The building was a retirement home and maybe it was built for those who are hard of hearing because the walls are paper thin. You can hear your neighbours sneeze. Generally everyone is very quiet and gets along well. If I made any noise, it was less than would have been made with a vacuum cleaner and certainly for less time. I do know it's a total shock that anyone would call the police for such a minor infraction, I never would. The former building super. used to bang my apartment door with the vacuum cleaner at 8 in the morning, lol. That I should have called the police about, lol. I am getting over it.

Not a problem Chris!!- You a Fat Secret Warrior! You still Kool with us!!!! I have to laugh at the police showing up for something like this, You will laugh at this, In Pinellas County there are some areas like St. Pete, unless its a shooting, murder, or domestic violence -the police just take a written report on noise complaint. IN clearwater, it has to be a loud stereo past 11PM and they have to bring electronic noise meters if there is an incident

Thanks for putting that in perspective. You do have to laugh at a small town where the cops have nothing better to do than show up for loud vegetable chopping !! LOL. I guess I am grateful that is the case.

I feel your pain. My upstairs are not only actually noisy, she is crazy and he's stoned half the time. We have to put up with it because we can't afford to move and every time we complain, the landlord says to call the cops and threatens to sell the building. The cops can't do anything, if they could the drug dealer wouldn't still be in business. So we have actual loud neighbors (wish we only had to listen to a dog, never minded that), and we're stuck too. Take the dog for a walk. I play loud Christmas music to drown mine out lol. Ear buds sound like a good plan. Don't give in to the food. I did that and now I have 60 pounds to lose in addition to the 80 I've lost. Nothing is worth that. You're doing too well to give in.

Chris you handled that perfectly. Please don't get down on yourself. You cannot change other people only yourself. Keep moving forward and stay strong. Remember everyday is a new chance to start again. :) Now get back you logging that food... Have a great day!
