This is an interesting weigh-in for me. When I was last on Fat Secret I weighed 0.6 pounds less than I do this morning. However the day I left for my two week trip to Mexico I was 3.2 pounds more than the last weigh in. I do find that I am looking at both numbers in assessing how things went.

I worked hard to not only enjoy the Mexican cuisine during my trip but to also remain cognizant of what I was ingesting calorie wise. I didn't want to 'miss out' on a traditional delicacy but I did not want to return to a 10-15 pound weight gain (perfectly plausible outcome as I have done it before!).

When I returned home I was 0.6 pounds less that the amount that I weighed when I left and 2.6 higher than the last logged in weight. Throughout this week I have returned to my routines and am pleased to say that I have dropped an additional 2 more pounds. Personally, I am calling this a win!

My trip to Mexico City wasn't the traditional trip that most of my Canadian friends embrace. There was no ocean and sand (but there was sun!). Mexico City is 12000 feet above sea level so it is cooler than the beach resorts. Highest temperature was 29C (85 F). What there was a lot of was amazing art - in public buildings, outside on roll shutters, in parks, in stores, etc. Truly wherever I looked I saw murals, pottery, textiles, sculptures! They were integrated throughout daily life as well as in museums. They generally make it free for people over 60 to access the museums (some exceptions). I saw lots of indigenous culture overlaying modern life. Music was everywhere and general population random people would kick up their heels and dance in the street! I found the people friendly and helpful despite my lack of Spanish and their limited to no English. You know you aren't in a tourist zone when the person manning the government tourist booth does not speak any English! I was fortunate to have a friend who was well versed (but with limited Spanish skills) in the area. We saw an active volcano and pyramids both an hour bus ride from Mexico City that I certainly wouldn't have seen without his knowledge of the area! My trip (minus the airfare) cost me about $2500 CAD including hotel, food, activities and souvenirs for 15 days. My guide is cost conscious so that certainly helped to keep the costs down. I would recommend this trip to everyone!

A modest lost this time around-0.6 down. I have concerns about the next two weeks. I am travelling to Mexico City. I fly out on Monday however tomorrow I will be driving to the city so as far as eating goes the trip starts tomorrow morning.

I am genuinely looking forward to eating interesting foods. I will be with a friend who lives there part of the year. He has sent me pictures over the years of a variety of meals. He goes to local small restaurants so the food is not catering to tourists. I am not sure how most of it contains nor how it is prepared so I will be flying by the seat of my pants. I do anticipate a lot of walking that will likely be more like ambling.

My plan- to eat three meals a day and avoid spontaneous snacking. I will look at what is on offer and go for smaller portions as they will likely satisfy just fine. Where possible I will have broth based soups and fruit and vegetables. This part is hard as I truly don't know what will be offered! In the morning, I will get in a brisk walk as my friend is a late riser and I am an early riser so there is a spot to do a bit more 'cardio'.

I am not taking my computer with me so I will likely be off line during the trip. I will have my phone but on airplane mode so only when I am at the hotel will I be able to access the internet.

I gained weight this week and I honestly don't know why. Throughout the week my weight ranged from 179.6 (beginning of the week) to 182.0 (today). Each day it increased until the highest weight was this morning. My average calories last week and this week are nearly identical and yet last week I lost 1.6 pounds and this week I gained 1.4 pounds.

The only thing that I can up with is that I have had an extremely stressful week. My father in law had a number of medical emergencies that involved ambulances and hospital visits and cumulated in his death at his home 3 days ago. My daughter and granddaughter stayed with him during his last night so he had family with him. It has been a very difficult time trying to provide him with appropriate care but on his terms. He was two weeks shy of his 92nd birthday.

Nice to see a loss this week of 1.6 pounds. I was consistent all week long and expected a loss of some sort. This is in the 1-2 pound general expectation that I have for myself so I am good with it.

I continue to be very mindful of added oil. That has been a big improvement. I have substituted a swallow of kombucha at evening snack times. This is minimal calories, is accessible and is working for me. It doesn't feed the sugar monster which is essential.

The saga with my father-in-law continues. He absolutely balked yesterday about considering a seniors apartment complex. His ideas for his living arrangements are not particularly based on present reality. At this point he is moving in with me come April. That is 6 weeks away and he has been changing his mind every few days so that may not come to pass either. Truthfully, I would rather not try to bring him here simply because I don't see us as particularly compatible roommates. However, his other plans are not safe for him. Guess I will see closer to the time.
