Finally a decent loss! I am down 1.2 pounds however yesterday morning I was down 3.2 pounds. Always relative. We had a family barbeque and I must have eaten more than I have estimated for it to register 2 pounds up. Be that as it may, I have lost 1.2 pounds and I will take that!

This week I have been quite diligent around planning my meals especially ones where i was away from home. I had some meals where I had to pivot - had planned a meal out but meetings were cancelled at the last minute sort of thing. Spent an entire day on the road with my son however made good choices at the restaurants including splitting a meal. I have had my protein bar with me in case of emergencies. I have not always needed to avail myself which is good, too.

This up coming week is pretty full. My son and his wife are here. We will be working at my father in laws so lots of time away. I am subbing on Tuesday. I leave Friday to go to a weekend long North Country Fair so camping and eating at hospitality. Coming home Sunday evening. I will be making food plans for all of this and it is my intention not to gain during this time.

This week I gained 0.6 pound. I am disappointed. Calories were 50 less than last week when I lost 1 pound. Seems unfair! I also was much more physical this week as I did a lot in my yard during which I am not only moving but not eating!

There are a number of explanations. The most obvious one is did I miss counting some of the snicks and snacks? Maybe. Those are usually fairly unconscious so it is easy to miss them. The other is that my body is reacting to the extra physical exercise by not releasing the weight. Sounds hokey but it has seemed true in the past - no scientific evidence though.

This up coming week is going to be a whirlwind in activity as well as eating minefields. It starts today. It is my granddaughter's graduation ceremony. I plan to stop at Subway for a salad with roast chicken. I will take a protein bar with me. After the ceremony I will be working a bit at my father in laws and have supper at home. Monday is an evening meeting which I will either pack or purchase at subway. Wednesday is a meeting that starts at 4:30 amd goes to 8:30. I will bring something with me. Thursday is a road trip with my son leaving just before lunch and not sure when I will get home - maybe after supper. There is a family barbeque likely on the Friday or Saturday.

Last week was also a tough one but I think I did okay on the food front. Monday was a subcommittee meeting. I ate one provided sandwich (no spread, no cheese) and a small date bar. I ate a protein bar on the way home. Tuesday was an awards barbeque for my granddaughter (she got the academic award!) followed by an Eagle Feather ceremony. At the barbeque I ate one weiner (no bun or condiments), some raw vegetables and later on at the Eagle Feather ceremony I ate a protein bar. Thursday I was on the road all day long however I managed to eat all meals at home in between driving from one place to another. On Friday I subbed at the school - made my breakfast there and packed my lunch, supper at home!

One pound down! That is lovely to see. One day this past week I had a blip when I was down 2.2 pounds... and one troubling day I was up 1.2 pounds! The rest of the week was more in the slow downward direction. Generally I ate within my calorie window with one day as an exception (about 175 calories over).

What went well? The protein bar has been a surpisingly helpful tool. I have been quite reluctant to eat protein bars as many years ago they were rather gross tasting. They have come a long way since then! I am finding that eating them has helped me deal with the "I am starved and I don't have a plan" moment. By planning to eat a protein bar it also allows for the times I am eating more than my plan and so I can take the protein bar out and remain within the calorie window.

I am doing a bit more pausing before I go off plan. I have been known to be quite impulsive in my eating choices away from home. I am making more of an effort to pause before just eating what is in front of me. Sometimes I am more successful than other times.

This past week has been quite busy. I finished up the Used Book Sale last Sunday. We made $3000 so that was great. I am battling ants in my garden plot so all my planting is not yet done. Hopefully this week. I subbed at the school for a day. I have put in time at my father in law's on 4 days. I went swimming one day. I bought a new lawn mower - very exciting as it is a heavy duty ride on mower! I have a massive lawn so this is a super big treat. Finally, I have a plan in place for my rental units. Work will begin on July 1 and will hopefully be finished September 1.

This morning I am down 0.8 pounds since last week. Generally I am okay with this.

I have spent the week in town organizing and putting on a used book sale. This has meant that some of my meals were not what I would have had if I had been at home. I have made some good choices, Subway, packing lunches, using protein bars to 'get me through' and that sort of thing. I have also done some higher calorie choices such as snacks, creamy soups, date bar etc.

I have been swimming which is exciting! All three mornings this week. Our pool opens early on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I am slowly working up to where I left off 7 years ago. I used to swim around 1.25 hours and 100-110 lengths. I am at 50 lengths in 40 minutes right now.

Last night was our first day of the sale. We sold books from 4pm to 8pm. We made $1100! Very exciting. Today we are running from 10am to 4pm and tomorrow will be noon to 4pm. Then pack up.

Things with my rentals continue to be up in the air as I wait for a last piece of information before I can make a decision as to what my next steps will be. It is looking more and more like I will have to invest in a second furnace.

I have also been putting in a few hours on my father in law's house. That sure is slow going. He really had a lot of belongings.

This morning is showing a 2.8 gain. That is what it has been since last Friday however I had a gain on the Saturday when I was doing prep cooking for a festival I am involved with. Then I spent the week trying to lose that gain and added to it with two 'blow out' days this past week. I feel like I have been fighting a rear guard action. In some ways it is good it is 'only' a 2.8 gain considering my choices however it is wiping out two to three weeks of losses. Not a good situation.

What needs to be done is to switch from the 'rear guard' mindset (where I am trying to mitigate poor choices) to a more 'assertive frontal action' mindset (where I am in control and making steady progress toward my goal)

I have been given the excellent suggestion of having an emergency stash for difficult situations such as a protein bar - would need to be one meal that is non-perishable so that it is easy to pack and leave in the car and have a similar stash in my house. These are for the emergency moments when due to circumstances meals are being missed or there just are no good choices available for a variety of reasons or when I get home late, exhausted and hungry. I am thinking that it should be something that is a calorie equivalent of no more than 450 calories so it is filling and will not lead to overeating the 'stash'. Such as having a number of protein bars in the stash and somehow it makes sense in the moment to eat 2 or 3 or them!

In the meantime, I will be proactive with planning and cooking meals ahead of time so good options are easily available.

This week has been busy! Last Saturday I volunteered 8 hours (I'd planned 4 hours but the need was great) to prep cook for a June music festival. Then I had an evening meeting for Restorative Justice, dealt with more red tape around rental units, put in a couple bouts of working at my father in law's house and subbed two days at the school.

I finally got back into the water on one of the days I was subbing. I used to swim three days a week for literally 15 years but when I retired driving to town that often didn't make sense so I stopped swimming. I love swimming and it was great to do so again! My muscles were sore but happy. I did a short 30 minute swim and 40 lengths so a good start!
