I had a couple terrible surplus calorie days recently, but I was able to pick myself up and get back on track this week. Even with this slip-up, I've been maintaining an average 800kcal/day deficit, with weight training and cycling, and controlling intake.
I can see that weight isn't going to be the best way to track my progress, because I'm gaining a lot of muscle. I can feel the fat decreasing too. Taking accurate body fat percentage measurements is too difficult, IMO. I think I'll just continue to trust the numbers (i.e. consistent caloric deficits) and the visual results I'm seeing--they're keeping me motivated enough.

It's so difficult to avoid unhealthy foods on holidays, especially when no one else seems to care what they consume. Luckily, I have a like-minded sister who is currently on the Atkins diet, so we both ate ham and veggies during the usual dessert feeding time. It made me realize that having just one other person interested in eating healthy can really help you stay the course. With a morning cycling outing before our Easter get-together, I managed to control my intake, and stayed at my daily avg 1000-calorie deficit.
I wonder if eating healthy will ever be "the norm" at family functions? It's such a shame that everyone blindly packs in a couple thousand calories just during a family function. And it's not even a cheat meal for them--this is their norm. Sigh. It might be a bit of a faux pas, but my sister and I will be bringing a couple healthful side dishes to the next function.
