01 January 2012

I have been up and down since July, but haven't bothered to change my weight here. I have been weighing only sporadically, in fact trying to weigh only once a quarter, but didn't stick to that 100%. This morning I weighed less than I have in at least a year, maybe longer, and it is less than I recorded today, but since my weigh fluctuates, I will state it here as being what I have seen most often over the last weeks.

My weekends have been much better, so I have hopes of shaving of ten pounds this year. My goal says more than that, but at this moment, I cannot imagine pushing myself much more than I am now, and I don't know where this will take me. I do not want to live worrying about what I eat at each meal. I do eat a lot of veggies, some fruit (2-3 pieces a day), and many high fiber choices of starch. I eat many good fats. I'm cautiously experimenting with less animal protein. In the past, when I ate less of it, I seemed to be more attracted to sugar. However, I'd like to see if I could eat less of it now for environmental reasons. I eat what I consider to be a reasonable amount at meals, but I also see that sometimes I could be satisfied with even less. I do not want a backlash if I eat too little, though. I'm also willing to consider, though, that my body is tapping into its fat stores better so I may be less hungry. Yesterday, I had basically one meal, including several of my favorite cookies, and I wasn't hungry again. I even went to a concert where they had some great African food, which I was looking forward to, but I just wasn't hungry enough for it. In the past, when I would forego food in such a situation, I would end up eating something later even though I wasn't hungry. Last night, I just went home and to bed. EVen now at nearly 8 a.m., I'm not hungry. I'll have lemon tea and see how it goes.

Happy New Year to anyone else that might read this!

Interesting to read what I wrote last July. I went back to work after a 6-week summer break and things got worse. I went back, on and off, to my old habit of bingeing after classes were over for the day, though my work isn't. My weight had gone up about 5 lbs. from the lowest I had gotten to in the past two years. Still haven;t become determined to get exercise in. I say I want to but my sleep patterns are so terrible and my work habits so bad that I don't. I'll say I will walk in the evening and then fall asleep in the evening until 10 or 11 p.m.. I don't want to work out then and wake myself up. Oh, the details are too maddening to report. Suffice it to say it doesn't get done consistently. I've been relatively back on track with my eating and see improvement on the weekends, which was where most of the trouble was before I went back to afternoon bingeing. I had decided I would weigh only quarterly but have peeked a few times. I'm down a few pounds, so I'm glad. Still don't know if I will get into my correct BMI range, but I'm feeling more content with eating moderate-to-light meals most of the time. I'm not often dying to eat heavier foods. I went to a street fair last night and had brownies, cookies, and such and felt great about it. I didn't go buy more and eat it all hunched on my couch after I got home, as I used to do. I've got a cold today which I hope will keep me more moderate in my eating. I also had a bright idea that just like it takes about three nights of NOT night- eating for it to feel a little natural, I bet after three weekends straight of sane eating with a few desserts and snacks, that will feel more natural, too. Of course, that requires a lot more hours of possible white-knuckling it than three nights of not bingeing, but the principle is the same. Eat good, delicious meals and keep reminding myself it either hasn't been that long since I ate a good meal or that it won't be long until the next good meal, so I don't need food in between. This seems a perfect way to prepare for Christmas week.
