Starting South Beach Diet all over again. I will follow it closly except for Thanksgiving holiday, as we are taking the whole family out to dinner on that day. I am hoping that by taking everyone out I will avoid the usual leftovers and other temptations.

I have been battling severe pain in my left leg, which may be Fibro or Ostio arthritis related or both. The muslces in my leg keep tighting up, making it difficult to sit or drive for long periods of time. I have finished 3 months of physical therapy and am still having problems. I do am & pm daily 20 minute yoga type stretchings in order to keep my legs losened up. I also use moist heat and a Tens machine. I was taking Celebrex, but am afraid of the side effects over an extended time, so have switched to Tylenal twice a day per doctor, and continue to take Tramadol for the pain every 4-6 hrs as needed. After buying a cane to use on my bad days, I became very frustrated and have had a few days where I have had a full blown self pitty crying party in bed! Worst of all, because I have not been very active or sticking to any type of diet, I have gradually put back on the pounds!!!

After visiting a new arthritis doctor, I realize that losing 30-40lbs is very important in helping to reduce my leg pain. He explained to me that every 1 lb of excess weight is equal to 4 lbs of excess pressure on your joints!!! This may be why the pain in my leg was so gradual in getting worse. It is time to stop feeling sorry for myself and get serious about dieting so I will be hopefully pain free. Wish me luck!

Had a pretty good week. I visited a friend last weekend and did stray somewhat from my diet - had 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 icecreams and some breaded fried foods. I noticed that I felt awlful after eating the fried food and icecream. My stomach felt extremeley full and bloated!!!

I stayed with a friend that does not eat a very healthy diet, lots of carbs and no veggies. Not wanting to hurt her feelings I choose the best things she had to eat. I did take her out to Red Lobster where we shared a crab boil and had a big salad (dressing on the side). I let her have the corn on the cob and the potatoes, and I ordered a side of asparagus. The hardest part was not eating the any of the cheddar biscuits!!!

Then we met with my son and his wife in Boulder where he wanted to go to The Hungrey Toad, a sandwhich place for his birthday. I ordered the Kermit (avocado) Burger which was huge (8oz.) and didn't eat the bun. Some places are very hard to figure out how to eat healthy.

The rest of this week I was able to follow the program. I have started adding back whole wheat products and have noticed a weight gain on the days I eat wheat. I am going to try cutting out wheat all together, since I seem to feel better without it. I will be adding some fruit to my diet this coming week.

The good news is that we have a great fast food salad place in town called Mad Greens. Colorado owned business, 3 organic greens to choose from and then you pick as many of the extras like HB egg, bacon, avocado, onions, mushrooms, fruit, etc., and one of many dressings. They even have unsweeted herbal teas. It is set up like going to Chipoltes or Subways, except they make salads, tossing it all in a large metal bowl just for you and then transfering it to a small one at the end of the line. It was a huge small salad and delicious!!!

So basically my weight was 171.8 last time and is now 172.2, and I only have my self to blame. Hopefully I can get it going down again this coming week.
