I've spent my life mostly ignoring fitness and nutrition. I am 48yrs. old and have truly decided to take care of myself for the rest of my life. Often, I don't know where to start, I get overwhelmed and give up. I guess I'm an all or nothing kind of person, it most often looks like all is too much, so I don't bother starting, or I start and soon give up yet again. I finally came to the conclusion that a "small change" on a daily and/or weekly basis could place me into good habits I can live with for years to come. I am also in training to quit smoking. What I mean by training is, I am learning about the brainwashing that keeps smokers wanting to smoke long after the slight physical cravings are gone. I don't have a lot of money to buy different foods and prefer to cook simple recipes. I hope to gain the maximum nutrition I can at the lowest possible cost with a moderate amount of effort to prepare and cook. I look forward to meeting other people like myself, as well as those who have spent their life eating well and staying fit. I chose to write my first journal entry as though I am speaking to the community. I am glad to meet the person reading this right now :)
