Bullying... Suggestion to parents: put it in writing; never delete (create an email file for correspondence regarding your child); include higher-ups (cc); be precise; demand action.
Had a conference with my child's teacher this a.m. Much bigger boy (older/bigger... stayed back) stabbed my child with a pencil hard enough to bruise him and has been calling him "gay", then telling other children he's gay, who in turn ask him if he is (curiously, as this is a new concept at their age). Bigger boy also steals his school supplies and distracts him on purpose in class. If ignored, said bully says, "F**k you!" to my child. 4TH GRADE. My child is only 9, smaller, shy. Bigger boy is 11. We don't use that language in our household.
Found myself explaining what "gay" means to a child who does not yet understand sexuality. Explaining that to be gay is not a bad thing, but labeling someone as such as a put-down IS because it is an attempt to make someone appear "different and unacceptable as such." Explaining that we are ALL different in our own ways and that people who are gay can be just as nice as people who aren't and should be respected and treated like anyone else. Explaining explaining explaining.
Asked to have the bully moved from near my child, in writing, back in September. Within 2 weeks of him being placed near my child again, all this has come about. When questioned why the bully was seated near my child again, the response was, "I don't remember there being an issue at the beginning of the school year." When I presented a copy of the email sent in September, memories miraculously returned. We'll see what happens next. I HATE that my child is going through this.

Concerned, but still determined...
Been away since last Thursday caring for elderly MIL. Outpatient surgery went well. Meds corrected with both doctor and mail-order meds company (2+ hours on the phone, no exageration). Long-distance, overdue podiatrist appointment taken care of (a bonus for her because I was there to drive her; important due to diabetes). Made a new tie-dye for her (LOVE that she wanted one at 82!). Missed my child BEYOND WORDS, as we've never been apart for so long. Missed my hubby too!! Started off determined to write down everything I ate, amount, activities, etc. Just plain too busy mentally and physically (even got up every 3+ hours overnight to give meds and help her with toiletries). Not getting on the scale 'cause I'm scared to. Don't want to see a negative change and discourage myself. Heading back down tonight (only left her for 24 hours). Bringing foods that I EAT, not what she/others eat. Planning long walks DAILY, as I'll have other peeps with me to help her out (her niece stayed with her last night... not really necessary, but comforting to us both). Have a happy Easter everyone!! Beware of children's baskets!!!!!
