I guess we all start over again...and again. I slipped up after my Mom passed away. It's really not a good excuse. If I was an alcoholic I couldn't use that as an excuse to leave my program. Same idea as binge eating.

I got out my book "Rational Recovery" and re-read the program that I am supposed to be following. I also had a long talk with my personal trainer about the difference between motivation and inspiration. I think motivation, the general desire or willingness to do something, comes from within. Someone can inspire you, give you a vision of something you want, and you can then be motivated to act to attain that vision.

My motivation for eating right in the long term is obviously health. But I needed something short term to get me going again. I am going to NYC with my Dad over Father's Day weekend. There is a lot of walking in NYC and I don't want to be sucking wind and in pain b/c I can't walk a couple miles or need to sit constantly.

So today is Day 1. I have 6 weeks to try to lose a good 10 pounds. Also, I need to do some walking every day. Today I had my workout in the morning and at lunch I walked .5 mile to get some stuff to make a salad.

If you are struggling, figure out what motivates you and pick a Day 1! You can do it!
293.0 lb Lost so far: 59.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

Sorry you lost your mom. That's a tough loss. I relapsed as well. HCB is right. We have to keep fighting or start fighting. We can't give up, because that way is debility, disease, and death.

you are quite right about motivation and inspiration. Lady is quite right also. Obesity is a cause of cancer. It's the new smoking.

Everyday is a new day, so yes we start over again and again. I've learned that in order to stay fit we have to work on it as long as we are here.

"End Emotional Eating" by Jennifer Taitz is another great resource. Wishing you all the best.

The road will always have bumps. We do what we must to get over or around them, then keep going forward. Losing a loved one is a big emotional bump, and sometimes you just have to pull over and look at the map again, just to make sure the destination you started with is still where you want to go. Welcome back, sweetie!
