JovialJ's Journal, 05 March 2017

I found it difficult to stay under 800 calories 3 of the 5 days. Most difficult was when friends invited us to dinner featuring Chicken Alfredo and garlic bread. I brought a lush salad to the party, but I didn't refuse the cookies for desert. Tomorrow I will weigh in and we will see how my efforts show on the scale (idiot box). I do feel better in my clothes which is surprising for just one week's effort. I plan to put in a better effort in the coming week and I am satisfied enough with how this week went.

Darn those cookies! Good job on bringing a good salad though. the Chicken Alfredo would have been a REAL deal killer!

Are you doing an every-other-day type of diet?

Why are you limiting your calories so low? That is very unhealthy and can actually be detrimental to weight loss as your body goes into "starvation mode". What plan are you on? If you are doing low carb, you should never limit your calories because it is counterproductive.

Do you eat under 800 all the time?Dr.s say you need at least 1300 for a healthy weight lose and to keep it off.
06 Mar 17 by member: lucky enough to make it
The more up-to-date information is that starvation mode is a myth. Folks studying the every-other-day diet (in which you eat only 600 calories or so every other day) is the best at conserving muscle and burning fat without reducing metabolic rates.

Good loss. Just had the same experience at an outing. But what's important is going back on track the next day. Good luck

Hi Buddies, Thanks for your encouragement and comments. The diet is called the 8-week blood sugar diet. book is by Dr Michael Mosley. I know from past experience that I had difficulty losing unless I kept my calories between 1100 and 900, but that made me really tired and crabby by the end of the day. I now realize that I wasn't getting enough protein which accounted for the mood issues. I started this diet through a challenge I joined last week. I also joined a challenge to drink 2 liters of water daily, although at my weight I understand that I need to drink 106 oz daily because we need 1/2 oz per lb. This week I will do better with adding exercise. Something else I noticed is that my sense of smell is sharper when truly hungry than it is when I identify appetite as hunger. Being fully present and enjoying the food is so much more satisfying as I slow down and feed all of my senses not just seeking the feeling of being full.

That's what I thought you must be doing, the 8-Week...diet. I hope you'll continue to give us feedback on your experiences with it.
