Sundance didn't cheat's Journal, 11 January 2017

Tough start to the week. Wanted to eat everything! Decided to cut down on sugar again. Counting calories works fine, but the sugar definitely increased my cravings to eat more. So no chocolate or mince pies the last few days and feel much better for it. Running has left me aching, but going to stick to it. Another month and I might just be one of "those" people that I used to envy/ loath in equal measure!

Great loss.

Well done, great loss. I want to know where all this sugar everyone talks about comes from. Does everyone eat so many ready meals that they are saturated with the stuff? I have always been a cook-from-fresh girl so I genuinely don't know how people manage to eat so much sugar that it has such a detrimental effect because I don't believe that most people live on junk food, ready meals and cake! Am I being naive?

ST Fruit is high sugar (even though it is natural). A supermarket cheese and pickle sandwich contains 7g of sugar. Carrots have 4.7g per 100g. Onions 4g of sugar. All carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugar by the body eventually.

Fabulous loss, Sundance. Take it easy with the running though; alternating with fast walking is just as effective. Also, I used to be one of those people you envy (as runners) but, trust me, the longer-term repercussions of feet and knee repair operations aren't so enviable.

You're doing really well - especially now that you're into the territory of "final few kilos"

Yeah, I know about 'food' sugars but I thought the going without sugar thing was just refined sugar. Thanks for the tip!

ST You`re welcome. I had to educate myself as I didn`t know. I was surprised at the amount of sugars in savoury food, it is bonkers!

yes it is difficult to go back to cutting out sugars. It took me a little while after Christmas. Sounds like you are getting back on track.

If you want to know more about sugar consumption, have a look at nutritionist Kate Deering's website. She did a post specifically about sugar yesterday. Her website is Kate Deering Fitness at https://www.facebook.com/katedeeringfitness/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED&fref=nf.
