Fledgist's Journal, 29 October 2011

Down a little at the end of the week. My new belt is in another hole (in to the second from the first). People keep telling me I look slimmer, but I don't feel it. My wife notes that my rear is flat, to which my only comment can be 'I'm working my buns off'. My BMI is 26.1, still well above normal, but getting there. When I started it was 54.5 in March 2009, so I've cut it in half (not to mention cutting my weight in half when I dropped below 190), but I still have that last hill to climb. It's not as daunting as the mountain that stretches behind me, but it seems just as hard. The last remnants of flab are taking their time about retreating, though they are retreating little by little. It is amazing that, at 55, I am in a lot better shape than I was at 53.
182.2 lb Lost so far: 154.8 lb.    Still to go: 14.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Wow.... Fantastic Fledgist. I think as you get nearer your goal, you don't notice the weight loss yourself. It must be there, for you to be able to go to the next notch on your belt :-). I don't find it hard to "stick" to my eating plan - in some respects I just "go with the flow". I guess I am so used to it now, that it is second nature. Keep up the good work. :-)

You really are inspirational! Your dedication and patience with the journey is really amazing! Your body could be realigning and adjusting. I found around 290s, my body didn't seem to want to lose weight, but everyone said I looked skinnier, and my clothes felt different. I'm thinking it's a normal part of weight loss, and you're so close to your goal, it's not a wonder your body is going through changes!

I do try to go with the flow. I just find that when I'm approaching a benchmark weight the scale seems particularly recalcitrant. I am now on the verge of passing 13 stone, and the scale seems very resistant! Brandy, thanks for the kind words. I think you're right. I'm getting closer to my goal and every ounce seems really hard to shed. Nonetheless, people seem to think I'm losing really fast.

You have done such an incredible job....I can't remember who it was but someone on here mentioned that it can take up to a year for your mind to catch up with your body when you have lost a lot of weight....it looks like that is the case for you......they say men lose quicker than women, but when you are the one losing the weight it feels like it has been a very long time. Also I think the last few pounds are really hard work it seems like most people that are in that place right now say the same.
