School starts next week. Even though I'm not a student, my routine does change because my three teens are back in school, and the pool closes and the days are shorter . . . really a new start is called for with all those changes. Like some new years resolutions. I've been thinking that my maintenance is off track because I depend on the scale too much. I officially weigh myself weekly, but actually I hop onto the scale a little more often than that. I'm considering weighing myself monthly. My thought is that will get me to eat and exercise more in tune with what my body is telling me. Hungry? Eat a nutritious meal. Tired? Take a nap. Crave a sweet? Eat a little treat. Feeling sluggish? Take a brisk walk. Get in tune with body signals. Don't ignore them. My fall resolution is to pay more attention to my body signals, learn them, and respond accordingly - not think how many days until my weigh in day or what the scale will say that day - before responding. React to the signals, not the weigh-in. Resolution: monthly weigh-ins. Maybe I'll try it. Whatever I weigh next Wednesday, I'll wait a month before weighing myself again and strive to have no change.
