sheshemoo's Journal, 20 March 2014

Finally back on track after returning from vacation and from getting the news from the doctors that it's not imperative anymore for me to follow such a strict 1000mg daily or less sodium diet. Went kind of crazy for a few days because it had been so long since I'd had some of my favorite foods, but after indulging and then feeling terrible and gaining several pounds (highest gain was 6 pounds) in what was probably some fat but mostly fluid retention, I decided that even though the doctors aren't "making" me, I need to choose to keep the sodium lower or at least pay attention to it and continue the healthy lifestyle that made me feel so great for four months.

Now that I am doing that again (but not nearly to the extent I was, but still somewhat reasonable....especially compared to my pre health issue days!), I feel GREAT and the weight came back off, so I'm headed for a fabulous summer where I won't feel like I have to cover up completely with long sleeves and long pants or dress and suffer through the heat under the guise that I am protecting my skin from UV rays. Yes, there is the need for that protection, but let's be honest, I can use sunscreen. The over-the-top covering was always because I didn't want to bare the ripples. Anyone know what I'm talking about here?

Praise the Lord, sheshemoo is BACK AND HAPPY! And it's the first day of spring and renewal. :)

Of course I know it - it's been about half of my life! twice my weight went sky high and twice I got it back down again. Now, I am up over 240 again and at my age (72) this won't be an easy feat to get back down! I have a very large frame (the Dr. tells me) and I'm about 5'6 1/2" so she feels if I can get back under 200 I will be fine - I'd rather get to 185. I weighed 165 when I graduated from high school and I was pretty skinny! I live in Arizona so I have to be careful with the sun (I'm half Swedish with very fair skin) but sunscreen works and I don't want to cover up either!!! Keep up the good work Sheshemoo - I'm with you!!!

Marilynarnold7, I hope for a quick recovery, both with your virus and with your progress! Keep strong and happy! Accenture, One thing you can rejoice in daily is that you are from Arizona! In Iowa, we've been freezing our anything exposed off for months! We do have reason to cover up, but then when we uncover when warm temperatures come, it can be a terrible realization that there's more to uncover than there was last fall!! Thanks for the encouragement and I'm in your corner, too!!!

I understand the sodium overdose. I am supposed to weigh in right now but I am going to wait until Saturday since I know I consumed a ridiculous amount of sodium while we were on vacation Sunday - Tuesday. They say it takes 3-4 days to clear out water retained from too much sodium. Congrats on being back where you were and good luck on hitting your goal!

Great job! I'm glad the doctor took you off the endangered species list. I would say you're on track to achieve your goal and won't have to worry about covering anything up (within reason) pretty soon. :D
