Fledgist's Journal, 13 February 2011

Some slight movement down, after going out yesterday (to see the live broadcast of Nixon in China, which is a very impressive opera, at the Fork & Screen; the baritone who sang Nixon had a vague resemblance, as did the soprano who sang Pat -- ouch, did I just write that? -- and the soprano who sang Madame Mao was Korean and rather vaguely resembled Jiang Qing; the supertitles and introduction used Wade-Giles transliteration for all the names which provided a certain nostalgic effect).

Cracking down to grading today, with my usual attack of depression coming on. Why can't these young beggars write?

Fledgist, I have noticed that about some youngsters. It also seems many times that they can't speak properly either. They use words that are not words, or use words in the wrong context...such as axed for asked, conversate for having a conversation....it drives me nuts!!! I sure hope that your grading went well, and that you are feeling better. Have a great week!
