TXSnowman's Journal, 15 December 2013

Well, I think that after a little more than six months, I've finally plateaued. I've been expecting this, so, while I'm not happy about it, I understand it. Susan B. Roberts, Ph.D., professor of nutrition and professor of psychiatry at Tufts University, is an expert on nutrition and weight control, and in an article in Psychology Today, she said that "... based on my experience in research studies where we measure calorie requirements and study plateaus, usually true plateaus don't happen for 6 months or more of dieting." So, I'm right on schedule. Therefore, I'm going to just accept the physiological realities of life and move on. I'm going to do three things about this: 1) Continue to exercise & increase my resistance training to replace lost muscle; 2) Be vigilant in my diet; 3) Be patient, because I know that if I do these things, the weight will come off. I read recently that it takes a year or more for our bodies to adjust to long-term dietary changes and to create a new, lower set-point. So, it's going to be important to continue eating this way, until they become habit. Breaking a lifetime of bad eating habits, will take time, but I know that I can do it!
