This is a perfect challenge, and you are right the scale is not all that matters. I'm weighing myself on a scale that measures not only weight but hydration, fat %age, and muscle mass. In the past month I have have only lost 2.4 lbs, but I have gained muscle mass and have lost 7% body fat! I love that!
