I'm calling my doctor today...I've tried everything on the market for acid reflux and I'm miserable! Nothing helps but not eating and I love, love cooking and eating! Fattening food and healthy food! I've given up alcohol completely but I'm refuse to give up my dang coffee and Crystal light! Just needed to vent. Anyone else struggle with acid reflux from hell? If so, coping skills?

Hi Paige. I have suffered with GERD for a couple of years. Various RX have been prescribed like famotidine, however only omeprizole has worked consistantly. I take it twice a day before meals and I no longer wake up at night with acid in my throat. I have not had an episode in over a year. I'm told things like coffee and chocolate make the value stay open, allowing the acid to flow back into the throat. This is something you need to discuss with a medical professional.

Horrible reflux/GERD here. The only thing that ever worked was when Prilosec was prescription only. The OTC doesn't work. Nothing works. I just chew some tums and hope for the best. Even water gives me reflux. Hoping for some relief for you!

I have a telephone appointment in the morning at 10. Can't wait to get some meds and relief! Thanks for all the great information!

So sorry. I tried a bunch of meds, worked with a Gastrointerologist. Did a few tests, found out I had Barrett’s Esophagus from years of “silent heartburn”. Had a Nissen Fundoplication surgery a couple of months ago. Still taking Protonix and Reglan and still experiencing healing pains and throat irritation. Praying and hoping that it clears up with time.

Aloe Vera juice helps a lot I drink that instead of water I’ve acquired a taste for it

I put myself on a low acid diet. I'm going on week 6 but still having some at times. For me it was mostly silent in that I rarely burped up acid. But I coughed alot at night especially laying on my right side which allows the stomach to drain. I've been on omeprazole 2x daily cuz food would stick in my throat. But the most recent experience was squeezing in my chest and I could barely swallow. Felt like a lump in my throat and like I was having a heart attack. But heart attacks don't last for hours or days. I stopped drinking coffee and cut out tomatoes and anything spicy or citrus. Also high fat milk products can be offenders. I eat lots of dairy but now choose only low fat. Also chocolate. It's a bit of a challenge and I'm getting a little bored. I don't think it's possible to cut out everything but eating minimal amounts is best. Also taking time to eat slowly and chewing food well helps. They also recommend smaller more frequent meals. Good luck to you!

Sleep with your torso elevated a bit.sleep on your left side. Do not eat for a couple of hours before going to bed.. biggest contrIbutor to reflux is being over weight. Good for you, you are already working on that.

I am on Omeprazole 40mg. cut way back on caffeine. folders decaf is pretty good. stop eating 2hrs before bed. no ice cream before bed. I had to cut back on my dark chocolate Klondike bars-weekends only for the treat.

I will definitely try all these things! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it and I always sleep on my right side! I'll make an effort to flip over more!

Have you tried a product called "Orange Burps"? It's always worth a try.
