SaintViper's Journal, 17 November 2010

Upped the fiber a bit which might be holding things up. Primed for a loss as CD likes to say that I like to say.

Fat-o-meter on the scale has been moving down a bit lately even though my weight hasn't. I think there's a little more toning up going on than usual because of the swimming. With the cycling, I think my body figures it has that covered. Not so much with the swimming. Will have to find something else in a couple months once I get more used to the swimming. Should be able to get some x-country skiing in pretty soon from the look of things.
202.4 lb Lost so far: 39.6 lb.    Still to go: 37.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I liked the saying, it was such a positive way to look at a gain and I wanted to make sure I was giving you credit for it. :) Movement on the 'fat-o-meter' is always a good thing!

hehe, I like it too. You can't be loosing all the time, but you can be getting ready to loose when you aren't loosing. (Sometimes by gaining.)

Felt really good for the first half hour of my swim workout today. Was pushing pretty hard and then tweaked my shoulder big time. Had to actually quit because I couldn't lift my arm out of the water. Will have to dial back the intensity in the pool a bit. Maybe it's time to start the C25K program so that I can wreck my knees too. ;)

Your not the only one, I feel like the harder I work the more I realize I am slowly falling apart. My shoulder, hip and ankle on my right side have been giving me problems for a while now. I find a nice warm bath does a world of good.

I think I'll give that a try. We have a very underutilized whirlpool tub that would be perfect for that. If nothing else, it would be good for my skin which is taking a beating from the chemicals in the pool water. The shoulder issues are more of a joint issue than muscular. They're usually perfectly fine but if I push it too hard, the problems flare up.

Funny you should mention hips. I don't have any hip problems but woke up this morning and my hip was really sore. Got in the pool and swam for a bit and something down there popped. The hip was fine after that. Weird. This getting old business is overrated. (And it's not even rated that highly to begin with.)

Do you take any Glucosamine? It's supposed to really help with joints. Yeah usually if I 'pop' my hip I am fine, but it can be really painful at times to do that. I am hoping that as I continue to lose weight the aches and pains will subside a bit more.

I'm not really into supplements but I'll give that a look. I'm thinking some rest and some Advil to reduce the inflammation will likely take care of it though. It only hurts when I try to raise my arm over my head. Might put a crimp in my dancing style.

Sometimes. Depends on what FHC (Future High Command) is in the mood for. It's pretty good exercise actually, but I usually don't log it.

Does high command like the fact that you call her high command?

Also, this is why men have the advantage, you not only get a cookie, but a brownie and tortilla chips and a brat and STILL lose. I have one damn cookie and cut corners elsewhere and still gain. I really hate my body sometimes, I learned a long time ago I have to be damn near perfect with my eating to lose.

lol, FHC is my daughter. I just made that up. I don't usually call HC that in person but I think she knows that I refer to her as that on occasion. Not really a big deal as long as she doesn't let it go to her head. :P

I'm not too surprised by the latest loss actually. I've been doing reasonably good for a week and hadn't really lost anything, so I really was primed. They brought Qdoba in for us at work on Tuesday and we had leftovers on Wednesday which is the reason for the all the chips and treats. I offset that stuff by having almost nothing for dinner so my calories for the day ended up being reasonable. Interestingly, I wasn't hungry at all when I got home after eating that stuff which really helped me keep the calorie count reasonable for the day. There have been quite a few days lately where I feel like I'm doing great during the day and then get home and I'm really hungry and kinda blow it. I'm thinking maybe chips and cookies might be the way to go. (Okay, not really but this does make me wonder if I should try something a little different.)

As for the eat a cookie gain a pound deal, I try not to look at it like that. I've been looking at my average calories in vs. out for the month and trying to stay in a certain range. If I can do that while eating chips, cookies, and brownies, then that doesn't bother me at all. I know that if I stay in that range, the weight is going to come off. It's not linear or even closely tied to anything I eat on a given day and I don't expect it to be. If I'm not happy with the progress I see over a given couple of days, all I have to do is look back to a month ago and see where I was. The progress is there and if I continue as I am, it will continue to come. In your case, you are down 7.5 lbs from the beginning of the month and it's only the 18th. Given the numbers, you were probably primed for a small gain and the cookie had nothing to do with it. Overall though you are still making great progress so there's nothing really to worry about is there? So don't blame it on the cookie or even feel guilty about it. Keep your eye on the big picture and enjoy the progress you've made.

SV, I was joking. I figured FHC was your daughter, cause of the whole future thing. :) You do awesome, there is no reason why you shouldn't lose. I know it's not really the cookie. It could be a multitude of things and I always have at least one up day, I know my trend. I also know all I can do is eat well and hope it's reflected on the scale. Make the best choices possible and hope that I am doing right by my body. I really am NOT concerned about a 0.6 gain. I just like busting your chops. Do you eat a snack in the afternoon? If you don't, try and eat something high in protein right before you leave work. It really helps me, without it I would be starving after my bike ride home. I do the cottage cheese and grapes at about 330.

oh man, here I was all proud of myself for being Mr. Supportive. Oh well, I can use some of that sentiment on FHC when she finds out she's not getting a puppy for Christmas. :D

Oh no you are totally supportive and I appreciate that. Just letting you know I am not totally owned by the scale. No puppy huh? Expect water works...

If I might add also, you brought up some points that I had never even thought of looking at, if I have another bad day. I certainly know now I can find other things to determine my progress, in the larger sense, and see how well I am really doing. Rather than just focusing on the day to day or weekly routine. You should be proud for being Mr. Supportive. You always have such a positive outlook on things. It's very admirable and refreshing.

awwww, you guys!!! It's so nice to know I can go away for a week and you will still play nice in the sandbox together. :-P
