cocobutt's Journal, 09 May 2018

Wow, my weight is totally going in the wrong direction. I'm 3 1/2 weeks past surgery so about 80% recovered and my appetite has gone wild. I'm spending more time with Mom and her house of sweets, so that's not helping. We watch DWTS every Monday night and last Monday she made my favorite cake - pineapple upside down cake. So I went crazy on it. I need to review the good suggestions posted by FS members on my last journal entry to fight my sugar weakness, especially around my enabler.

I also need to record my food intake to start getting a handle on my overeating. I will try my best to record everything today. I've had a backlog of work lately, so I've been getting up around 5am and working until 4 or 5pm. I walk my dog, grab a bite to eat, then I'm about ready for bed by 9. I actually enjoy being a sister of the sunrise now instead of the night owl I used to be. I feel more refreshed and get more done.

I see more people raving about the keto diet. I guess I'll search Amazon to see which keto books rank highest. If anyone reads this post and has had good luck with a keto regimen, I'd welcome your suggestions. :)

Don't complicate keto. Do your research, but all you need to start is this: cut net carbs (total carbs minus fiber) to under 20g/day. That means no sugar, starch, bread, flour, pasta, rice, potatos. Eat only when hungry. Don't avoid fat! That will get you started. (You don't have to add butter to your coffee, but use heavy cream instead of skim milk. Don't pull the skin off the chicken. Don't choose the 'low fat' option of anything. Cook your eggs IN the fat from the bacon-that will probably get you enough fat.)

Hang in there. You will get a handle on it. Recording all intake is a good place to start. That lays the foundational knowledge from which you can plot your course of changes. Then keep those changes simple with a focus on what works for you and your life. Don't straight jacket yourself into a direction that winds up being a chore to follow. Calculating your BMR and setting an intake target 500 cals per day below that as a place to start. Also if heading in the Keto or any of the LCHF directions simplly start by working hard to cut back carbs, especially the sugars and bread carbs. Read all you can while doing this, plenty of information on line without the need to invest in a book. Again, don't force yourself in a direction that doesn't fit your life and how your bod works. Adopt the concepts that you think will work for YOU. You know what you want to do, now make it happen. There will be plenty of peeps cheering you on.

I have lost 74lbs on Keto since January 2nd. I started my journey at over 500lbs, today I am under 430. I dont add exercise, though I know I should, I dont count my calories. I eat things that make me happy, I missed the sugars at first, but I dont anymore. I make mistakes, but its life, we all do. I would recommend the Keto diet to anyone who is extremely overweight, because it really does make you feel better. I have seen my energy level, mental cognition, sleep and more improve since I started this way of eating. I am more than happy to share my food log, my weight history, because for the first time in my life, I am losing weight. I am seeing improvement. I do fast for 16hrs a day, I eat my last meal before 7pm and do not eat again until after 11am. I eat one meal a day on the weekends. I am never hungry. I do put heavy cream and coconut oil in my coffee, but thats a personal preference. Dieting is only as hard as you make it. I still eat fast food, but I make better choices. I dont eat buns, ketchup, even omit the onions a lot of the time. You can do it, it just takes learning what works for your body. We are all different.

Be encouraged. Don't give up! Google the information in re of your question. I watched both documentaries on Netflix 1st "The Magic Pill" and the 2nd was "Forks over Knives". I have chosen the later for now. Good luck in what ever journey you choose. Be blessed & less stress. Make small changes and they will add up!

My daughter just started Keto and she has lost 6 pounds in less than a week. I try to cook Keto but I am on a low fat diet so it can get complicated. Hang in there and find what works for you. Blessings!

Thank you, Klynn, Marsha, and Ginger! While looking online for info about the Costco protein bars I eat, I found a keto blog that was interesting. I found out my protein bars have only 1 g of sugar but they're overloaded with carbs. So I'll stop buying them. I don't doubt that the mental cognition and clarity will improve with less sugar and carb. I've experienced it and journaled about it before. I'll have to check out the Netflix documentaries too for motivation. I will do my best to hang in there! Thanks again!
