LauriSinger's Journal, 27 March 2014

read today about a book called "Eat Fat, Get Thin." I'm wondering if that would help me find some recipes to do this 70/20/10 percentage I'm working for. I'm also going to analyze my eating, and see how many grams of protein I've been eating. They say around 70 is good for women--too much will stall weight loss. Plus, they say too much at one time is not good. I haven't been watching to see that I spread it out during the day. So much to think about!

Diet Calendar Entry for 27 March 2014:
811 kcal Fat: 59.16g | Prot: 56.78g | Carb: 12.16g.   Breakfast: Scrambled Egg (Whole, Cooked), Cream Cheese, Butter. Lunch: Oscar Mayer Beef Summer Sausage, Cheddar Cheese. Dinner: Butter, Cooked Broccoli (Fat Not Added in Cooking), Baked or Broiled Salmon. more...

Totally agree Lauri, same trouble here. Trying to keep my percentages down in range but it is so hard to do! Still keep track of my calories, most people say don't worry about them but I know if I go over 1400 I will not lose. I try to stay under 1300 which is pretty doable, but those percentages are hard to keep in range! Ahhh, I love Atkins but sometimes keeping all the pieces right seems to take the genius of a mad scientist! LOL Let me know if you find that book and if it's any good? We need all the help we can get! I'm not a math genius by any sense of the word so this numbers thing is making me crazy! Thank goodness I have FS to do most of my figuring for me.

All the time I was losing, I watched my calorie intake and stayed from 1200-1500 calories. My net carbs were between 20-25. I lost 50 lbs and now I am maintaining. They say we don't count calories, but common sense told me they add up. My percentages were 63-68 fat, 30 protein and the rest veggies. I didn't plan to eat those percentages, that's just how it usually worked out.

I'm having a really hard time getting my fat and protein ratios on track. I always seem to get in way more protein than I'm supposed to yet I feel like I'm following the diet pretty well. My weight has been stalling a lot so I tried changing things up like drinking more water, exercising more, increasing my fat intake, but nothing seems to be working so I'm assuming it's the protein culprit. Any advice on how to keep it down while keeping fat up?

On a good day, my fat is higher than my protein, but most days I'm struggling to get it higher. I'm looking into adding coconut oil... Heard it is very good for you. Many put it in their coffee, which I don't drink. So I have been reading about fat bombs, which I am going to try after I buy that oil today. The only way I can see to do this is to eat a fat bomb, which should curb my appetite even more, so maybe I can forgo eating the protein. It's all an experiment in what works for an individual. I am adding a couple supplements like magnesium and vitamin D to my multi, which I take faithfully. I am feeling better and more energized every week.

Hi Lauri, rising your fat% will definitely speed up your weight loss. I am on day 4 of a fat fast with a max of 95% fat. I have lost 4 pounds so far during this fast. When I stop the fast I start very slow to increase calories and lower the fat to 80% so I don't gain anything back. My sister has lost over 100 pounds with Atkins and she tells everyone she did it by keeping her fat to 80% and above... When you get closer to your goal weight and maintenance, then you start lowering the fat%. Yes I take coconut oil, in my tea, coffee, for cooking, on my salad, etc. some people eat it raw just like that but I don't like the "feeling" that does in my mouth. Coconut oil is really good for you inside and out! Put it on a fresh scar and it will make it go away much faster, if your hair are dry, put some coconut oil on your hair and leave it there for 20 minutes before washing your hair, they will shine like crazy, I put some in my face in the evening, my skin is so smooth. I didn't know about that fantastic product before doing Atkins, someone mentioned it and I looked it up on YouTube and experienced by myself, this is AMAZING. Last but not least, CONGRATULATION on the new "inches loss" you are doing great, keep up the good work! Talk to you soon, Have a great day and a "big loss"!!! :)

Just to see how my percentages were doing I went back ten days and did an average calculations, here are the results...ten day average...Calories 1226, Carbs 7.6%, Protein 24.2%, and Fat 69.2%. So after reading all the other posts it looks like I need to up my fats, the rest looks ok to me. If I'm wrong could someone let me know, thanks!
