Rowanfair's Journal, 21 January 2011

I just watched a very interesting program called Sugar: The Bitter Truth by Dr. Lustig of UCSF. I know I won't be able to reproduce his arguments but if anyone thinks "a calorie is a calorie" he pretty clearly knocks that idea out of the ring.

I didn't follow the middle section on biochemical pathways all that well but his message about High Fructose Corn Syrup metabolism and obesity (esp in children) was chilling. So was the baby formula he showed - insane amounts of sugar given to infants (the equivalent of a can of cola). And the earlier you get the taste for it the more you crave it.

The program is about an hour and a half long and I admit I listened more than watched as I was doing other things. I thought it was well worth the time though.
