GLAMMER's Journal, 22 October 2013

Hi, this is my 1st journal entry, just starting out with Fat Secret & have joiined 2 groups, "Oregon People" & "Low Carb Baby Boomers". These group titles pretty much describe where I am right now, geographically & diet-wise. My diet is low carb & low cal, & I've lost 40 lbs about 1 1/2 years ago, but had right hip & knee replacements last year, followed by 2 infections in the hip incision. The 2nd infection took 6 months to heal, so I haven't been too good at exercising or dieting in last 6 months, & have gained 10+ lbs back. Now I am ready to commit to losing, dieting & exercising again. I want to lose another 50 lbs in the next year. I want to lose very slowly. I've been very overweight since childhood, & have tried so many diets, drinks, pills, etc., over the years. I finally realized that since it took me years to get this heavy (266 lbs), it's only sensible that I need to lose the weight slowly in order to keep it off permanently. So, my goal is to lose 1-2 lbs a week, while just trying to eat a sensible low carb, low calorie diet. My husband is diabetic so we have to go low carb anyway, & this really helps me to consistently eat right. I have a genetic collagen defect called "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome", & it causes weakness in all my soft tissues. I have Osteo Arthritis in most of my joints, especially hips, knees & spine. Had my left knee replaced in 2003 & it is still fine. I still need to have my left hip replaced as it is getting quite painful. The EDS problem also causes other soft tissue problems, like frequent strains, aches & pains. I have fibromyalgia & tendonitis, & get frequent foot & leg cramps, especially during the night, & when I've walked more than usual. I have to use a walker to walk, so I don't walk that much anyway, & knowing if I do I'll probably wake in the night with painful cramps isn't a big incentive to walk & exercise, but I try to do it anyway as I know it's ultimately good for me. There is nothing the Dr's can do about my lower back, & they say I'll end up in a wheelchair one day, but I plan to hold that off for as long as possible, through weight loss & exercise. I'm looking forward to chatting with others, & hopefully we can have fun while encouraging & supporting each other on our weight loss journey.

All the best! I look forward to being inspired by your progress! If you have lost 40 lbs before I am sure you can do it again! I started my own challenge yesterday, I want to loose 12 lbs in 10 weeks ( for my wedding). Keep well x
