ChrisSpark's Journal, 29 August 2015

Hello all,
I've been at this Crossfit thing for 4 months, 3x a week. I've got to say, I mostly enjoy it. I can almost do a few respectable burpees. But the biggest gains have been in strength areas that don't involve heaving my bodyweight around, natch. I'm not sure which will happen first, I'll lose enough weight to do a full push-up, or I'll gain enough strength, lol. I set a goal of 10 full push-ups by July 2016 and
One thing I can do really well is the deadlift -- 140 lbs. And a respectable bench press of 80 lbs. Upper body strength just seems so hard to build, for a woman. Ah well.
My resting heart rate has gone from 103 bpm to 65 bpm, which is a HUGE improvement in fitness. I've been slow to lose the weight because I find it difficult to maintain a calorie-deficit and make it through a tough workout. I'm finding that I have to increase my protein intake, by a lot, in order to lose weight while keeping at the fitness routine.
On my off days, I have been biking everywhere and trying to do a 6-8 km ride 2x a week. I love speeding around on my bike, I don't know what I'll do once the snowy winter arrives --- walking seems so slow in comparison.
Anyhow, I keep up on your journal entries and follow your progress FS Buddies. Even though I don't have much to say, I support you in spirit !! Keep fightin' !!!

This is great! One thing, you either have to decide to lose fat or gain strength. It's hard to do both. You'll get frustrated especially if you're on a caloric deficit. That's what happened to me. I went from 174 lbs to 140 lbs. Though I lost a lot of fat, I also lost some strength. But now that I'm focusing on building muscle I finally gained all my strength back. I now weigh 144 lbs. I would say focus on losing fat. Once you're low in fat then you can focus a lot of your strength and you get to eat a lot but moderately :-D So burn all those calories! But most of all enjoy working out! Keep up the hard work. ;-)
